Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Breaks my heart to see The Blunts have problems :D They'll no doubt sue the chemist if they miss out on promotion again this season

Steady on lads, it was an OTC medicine which he took.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

It was probably Pseudoephedrine, and if he can prove that it was from a chemist, he shouldn't be punished. Or at the very least, get a suspended punishment.

    People make mistakes.

I agree - i think people can be too harsh on the use of 'banned' substances. Though, he should have gone through the clubs medical staff - if he had this would not have happened. He should know the risks of buying OTC, and the fact he went ahead and did it is just stupid.

i wonder if Tevez and West Ham think that he is being harshly treated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 869 ✭✭✭The Hustler

He's only got himself to blame

Anybody who has ever been in a pro dressing room these days will know that there are notices all over the place warning players what they can and cant do at club and to discuss anything medical/medicine related with the club doctor or medical staff, no matter how trivial they may think it is.

Seems like yet another bad error of judgement

Just goes to show those diet pills can contain anything

He will have a bit of trouble with this one, proving it was in an OTC form that he took it,

This is the one that some Rugby players got 2 year bans for wasn't it?

What is Ephedrine supposed to do for footballers?

Anecdotal reports have suggested that ephedrine helps studying, thinking, or concentrating to a greater extent than caffeine. Some students and some white-collar workers have used ephedrine (or Ephedra-containing herbal supplements) for this purpose, as well as some professional athletes and weightlifters. It is common for many athletes to use stimulants while exercising. Such use of ephedrine has been associated with stimulant dependence, as well as deaths from heatstroke in athletes and circulatory problems such as aortic aneurysm in weightlifters, though these side effects are rare.[verification needed]

So he gets the concentration needed for a goalkeeper, and some stimulant for exercise. Hmmm ban him for life I say.

I can only guess but it's likely the drug is rather harmless, however if something unfortunate happened to the guy e.g heart attack or something else, even if unrelated and the drug was found in his system the media would approach it as player needed said drug to keep his place in the sport and it may have led to heart failure/ other condition etc let's run riot.
This would leave the sport looking very bad.
Again I'm just trying to figure the logic in it because it's obviously not a super enhancement drug or anything.

It's actually very good at keeping you alert.

It's in the likes of Lemsip Max Strength. Not ALL cough and cold medicines, but the "Max Strength" or "Extra" ones.

Next time you feel a cold coming on, take a sachet of Lemsip Max Strength, it's bloody good stuff, and keeps me alert and awake for a good 8 hours. It contains pseudoephedrine.

    /shill :D

So I'd imagine a goalkeeper taking ephedrine before a game would be more "tuned in" to the game. I suppose there's no way to quantify that, but from personal experience, I have had "performance enhancing" (no laughing at the back :p) affects from that medicine. As in, I've been able to work normally with a cold/flu instead of being all sleepy and run down.

I've never taken it whilst not being sick, but I could try it for the sake of Boards.ie

    He doesn't need it.

Only 6 conceded in 11 games.

Most clean sheets in the Division.

...or maybe he's already on it.

The perfect subject needs to be psychologically unaware that he is being tested. So no mental attributes feck up the experiment. I say slip a sachet of lemsip max strenght into his lucozade sport. Then just see how he plays. :D

Good acticle on the incident and previous incidents here:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/sheff_utd/8137680.stm

And in an amazing pot, kettle incident Neil Warnock has had his 2 cents and said this about Paddy:
""He's a smashing lad but can be a bit daft and because of that he can get himself into situations and unfortunately this could be the biggest of the lot."

Well Neil if Paddy is a bit daft then you must be ...................:pac:
