Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dunphy quits radio show.

Eamon Dunphy's show will not be returning in the autumn. RTE's website has the usual guff about him concentrating on football and quoting him saying how he enjoyed the two years...leaving on a high...etc...etc

But The Mail is running a story about him quiting after refusing to take a pay cut. An insider revealed "Negotiations between Eamon and management had been ongoing for the new season of the show. But they broke down last friday after he refused to agree to take a very substantial pay cut."

Wasn't this the man who cried on tv over the plight of the little guy in these recessionary times, castigated the taoiseach for earning more than Obama (while he in fact earned more than them from RTE) and brow beated his RTE colleagues into taking a 10% cut.

The penny finally seems to be dropping over in montrose.

Regardless of the reason, has Dunph managed to persist at any one thing? His time on Today FM was short enough, Newstalk likewise, two TV3 disasters, even with Billo and the boys he can go missing and he's given up the Prem long since.

The Sindo I suppose, but even that ended badly.

At least he saved RTE some serious dough - now they don't have to pay him anything - for the radio show anyway

I don't think Roy considers him a mate, but agree that Dunphy has the pattern of a serial quitter.

Back on topic, though - I enjoyed these shows, listened to them mainly on podcast. Eamo does have a style of interviewing that interviewees seem to relax into, and the shows format encouraged that further. Shame it is gone now.

    What radio show was that?

The interview at 0900 on Sun morning or was it 1000?

No loss, in my opinion, generally load of mild tosh, with Eamo throwing in the more than odd reference to his perceived "party animal" image.

Lightweight stuff, in my opinion, vaguely interesting but no more than that.

"No. This is absolute nonsense Bill" Dunphy isnt a quitter he's likes to diversify, gets bored of same old same. He neeeds change. Quality pundit in terms of knowledge, opinions and most notably controversy.

While I don't doubt Dunphy's knowledge of his subject, particularly soccer, I could never listen to him for more than a few minutes. It's like listening to some p*sshead down the local telling you all his woes.

I like him when he is discussing football and I thouht his daily radio shows were good, but I have never liked any of his interview shows on TV or radio. Reason being that he is sicofantic and always too nice to his guests, to the point where it is very hard to watch/listen.

Agree. He is like another Eamon - Keane who likes to give the impression he askes the questions others won't, but is in fact a pussycat.

The Irish Daily Mail have printed a unreserved apology to Eamon Dunphy over yesterdays claim, that he quit the show because he refused to take a pay cut. Apparently it was complete bollox. I should have know better than to have quoted the rag.

You really should. On the subject of Dunphy he does his best work in a sporting environment.

That Saturday morning show was a really easy number too - an extended chat with one person once a week, with a few of their favourite records chucked in, pre-recorded and with ad breaks so it was hardly even 45 minutes of radio time. Not even a first half in footie terms. "Dessert Ireland Dosh".
