If you wanted to go to the waterfall Alpine coaches go up but not sure of times. Was up there last week for a picnic. The gardens don't allow picnics at all.

I would reccommend Marley Park. I had a picnic there with the kids today-just back. Lovely park, plenty of picnic tables, plenty of space for kids to run-and nobody bothers you!!

I used to work there and to be honest the only time you will be turned away for having a picnic is if you are blatantly bringing in baskets and footballs and stuff like that. Then the reception staff are obliged to give out. The truth is no one really cares. Yes the rule is stated, but noone patrols the gardens so as long as you are discreet and bring your stuff in rucksacks are something like that you will be fine. For god sake I was working there one day and someone came in after a while and told me that there were a bunch of lads making a porno in the Japanese gardens. It turned out true, but they where discreet and it only got noticed by a group of tourists even in that case they didnt get in any trouble. Just keep your business out of plain site ie below the pond and you will be fine. If not they cannot really do anything anyway...:D
