not bad, but scale down in defence and upgade on Neville in midfield. He wont score points for ya.

Modric could flourish this season too.

Neville scored 140 points last season, and for £5 million, he isn't a bad choice.

Neville was down as a defender last season but played midfiled for everton therefore getting clean sheet points and assists..hes down as a midfielder this season and wont score anything near those points. ;)

Ah, I see. Same kinda situation with Zhirkov at Chelski then..

    Anyways, swapped out:

    Carra for Upson,
    A. Cole for Corluka (spurs might actually be decent this year round)
    Neville for A. Young

    Its a solid team.

Personally I wouldnt spend so much on a keeper like Cech when a 4.0mill keeper may score better.

Defenders - Your starting 3 are first choice starters and Vidic knows where the goals are when he up for corners etc. Always reckoned Carra is a bit overpriced however. Maybe a more attacking player could do better job - Lescott / A.Cole / Evra???

Midfield - Alonso is cheap but as a defensive mid he wont score too heavily. Murphy had a great season last year and hits the penalties. Malbranque is an attacking player and knows where the goals are.

Strikers - Johnson? I would prob replace him with someone like Cole / Crouch (if moves club). Doyle is good value. Torres however isnt - 11.5 for a player who only scored 135 points last year? I would rather recycle those points and replace someone in midfiled with Arshavin / Gerrard / Kuyt...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,251 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

I think Rooney is better value than Torres. He's .5 of a million cheaper and he should flourish this season with Ronaldo gone.

Kevin Doyle could miss the start of the season. He had a hernia op and is out until October apparently. I wasn't sure whether to go for him or Ebanks Blake but its definitely Ebanks Blake now.

    My team now is:

    Given

    Warnock
    Anton Ferdinand
    Woodgate

    Arshavin
    Lampard
    Gerrard
    Malbranque
    Jimenez

    Rooney
    Ebanks Blake

Hart, Zayatte and two other subs not worth even mentioning.

I had got Jasskelainen (4.5) in goals to save 1.0 mil and some better subs but decided to just go for it and have Zayate as my only decent sub.

I think Given (5.5) will score well because he's scored well consistenty with a Newcastle defence in front of him so he should be a revelation with the City defence in front of him.

I'm planning to swap Jimenez out too. Anyone know a decent mid for 5 mil?

How much is Barry Ferguson? It'll be interesting to see how he does.

Last year I went for a defence from the top four and it didn't work out so I'm going for high scoring mids and a high scoring striker this season.

As someone above said, the defenders from the lower teams usually pick up a few points and Warnock often plays in midfield for Blackburn. Redknapp tightened up Spurs as well and Bruce and Allardyce will be tightening up Blackburn and Sunderland.

Torres has the best points per game out of all the strikers. 5.6.

True, shows how many games he missed last year then.

Ferguson is 5mil alright, I'd go for Seb Larsson though at the same price. Should be a regular starter and scores goals.

    And I've changed mine again....

    Green

    G. Johnson
    Carragher
    Upson
    Corluka
    Woodgate

    Gerrard
    D. Murphy
    Modric
    Lampard

    C. Cole

    Subs:
    Sorensen
    Ebanks-Blake
    Mendy
    Vokes

I'm going by the fact defenders score better than strikers, but I will more than likely change my team in a few hours anyways

Great shout. If you want a very cheap mid Larsson's your man. He should be involved in anything good Birmingham do. He's a freekick specialist as well. Could see him getting 4-5 goals and maybe 6-8 assists, plus the odd bonus, and he should also play 90 minutes. For .5 more than the cheapest midfield options this is very good value

Why are people picking their teams looking at the fixture list? If a few teams dont play in the second fixture, they will have to have a double gameweek in the future

because you can make transfers throughout the year

but ya can only make one free transfer a week, or does the new rule mean if ya dont use the free transfer, it carries over to the next week?

Yes that is what the new rule means.

But it dosn't continue accumalating. You'll never have more than 2 free transfers (apart from when you use your wildcard of course)

I'm just wondering with Zhirkov in as a "left back" whats going to happen with C**tly C**t (A.Cole) ? Or is he good enough to keep J.Cole out?

Zhirkov will be on the wing I'd see either Malouda or Joe Cole being squeezed. It certainly wont be the new man being squeezed

    First incarnation...

    Schwarzer

    -Yobo--Skrtel---Hughes--O'Shea-

    -Lampard--Mikel--Ireland--Reid-

    ----Torres (C)
    Fuller----

    Subs;
    Sorensen
    Dunne

ok here we go, 1st time playing so go easy:D

this is my 1st draft not entirely happy and it is harder than it looked to pick a team.

    given

    johnson
    woodgate
    onuoha
    warnock

    arshavin
    gerrard
    malbranque
    n'zogbia

    torres(C)
    Jo

    hart, ebanks-blake, fahey, foley

  • Registered Users Posts: 274 ✭✭eoin99

My 2nd draft goes like this:

    Sorensen

    --Zhirkov
    Figeroa
    Hangeland---

    --Arshavin
    Gerrard
    Lampard(C)
    Muamba--

    Ebanks Blake
    Rooney
    McFadden

    Subs:
    Hart
    Mendy
    Berra
    Dawson

Any opinions? Planning on having Hart as the no.1 keeper, but since they are up against Utd in week1 he's on the bench, which doesn't look very strong!

    OK:

    Almunia

    O'Shea
    Dunne
    Skrtel
    Bridge

    Arshavin
    Cahill
    Alonso
    Essien

    Torres
    Owen

With: Sorenson, Figueroa, Larsson and Jerome on the bench.

If Alonso goes I'll put Fellaini in his place. Also probably going to put Distin in for Dunne if he moves to Villa.

Also what do you reckon, Cahill or Arteta? Same price.

Arteta... he hits the penalties, free kicks and corners. So your guaranteed a few goals and assists. Good for bonus points too.

Cahill is a goal machine when on form though, but Arteta the better fantasy choice!!

I actually think this is a decent team but I'd get rid of Mikel and get cheaper subs. You could save yourself at least 3 million if you get subs from the cheapest price bracket like Foley at Wolves or Muamba at Bolton.

I'm thinking of buying Gareth Barry for 8 mill,
will he get a leading role this season or will he be rotated with somebody else?

Also, Doyle or Blakes who do you lot think will do better?

Barry is pretty much guaranteed a start imo. Only Michael Johnson the only other player to do his role.

Another Line Up I'm looking at

    Given
    ----Evra
    Carragher
    Hangleland
    Distin
    ----Lampard(C)----Gerrard
    Arshavin----Larsson----
    Cole
    Ebanks Balke

    Subs:
    Sorensen
    Muamba
    Zayatte
    Rodriguez

    Any opinions,
its hard to fit Lamps, Gerrard and Asrhavin in the same team and still have some sort of balance to it but I think its decent enough.

Just joined, here's my team, Superbatov FC:

    Given
    ---Ilunga----Hangeland---Vermaelen--Evra---
    ---Valencia---Ireland(C)---Gerrard---Kightly--
    Doyle
    Owen

    Subs:
    Gomes
    Corluka
    Palacios
    Fletcher (Burnley)

The irony being I couldn't actually afford Berbatov :pac:

I've fairly dramatically changed my team around, and it now looks like this:

    Given
    ---Baines
    Hangeland
    Vermaelen----Zhirkov---
    Valencia
    Ireland
    Fellaini

    Rooney(C)
    Doyle
    Eduardo

    Subs:
    Gomes
    Berra
    Cattermole
    Palacios

    Opinions?

One thing that stands out for me is that you've gone for a few card-happy individuals.

Cattermole got 12 yellow cards (2 red) last season as did Fellaini, Rooney got 9 yellow cards, Ireland got 8 yellow cards, Valencia got 5 yellow cards.

By my calculations if you'd had just these 5 players last season you would have lost 52 points. That's quite a lot.

Personally I'm going to go with Ireland like yourself despite the card risk but I'm going to try and avoid other card-happy players. I'd suggest going for too many committed players could be very dangerous.

Edit: I just spotted you went for Palacios as well and he also picked up 12 yellow cards!

No offence but I hate it.

You don't have Gerrard, Lampard or Arshavin who are all going to score big.

Valencia and Eduardo are not guaranteed to be regular starters, at least not right away.

Fellaini is one of those players who is better than is reflected in his score. A lot of his best work isn't recognised by the FF points system.

Zhirkov could be a brilliant player to have, but I'm personally going to wait and see how regularly he plays, as Malouda was doing well at the end of last season.

Given is obviously class, but I have doubts over City's defence.

I also think your bench is a bit too strong. At the start of the season, your starting XI should all be playing as you shouldn't have anyone who is injured in your team. Take Gomes out and bring in a 4m goalkeeper, and do the same with the midfielders. You could save a couple of million and improve one of your starting players.

At the start, all I want from my subs is that they play, nothing more. I'll be going an all Burnley/Birmingham/Wolves bench I think, along with Sorensen who I think everyone should have.

Just my advice, I'm by no means an expert.

Right, trying to get my team together.

    Currently:

    Cech

    Zhirkov
    Vidic
    Johnson
    Larsson---Lampard(c)---Arteta---Young---N'Zogbia
    Cole
    Ebanks-Bblake
Subs: Myhill, A Ferdinand, Zayatte, Zamora

I'm chopping and changing constantly.... and have a few questions.

Firstly, what do ye think? :pac:

I have decided to take the risk on Zhirkov for now. If it looks like he's not going to start I'll switch him out.

Vidic vs Ferdinand. Is he worth the extra 1m? He obviously had a great season last year, and Ferdinand had a poor one. But the 2 years before that were the opposite. Can Ferdinand pull it back?

I think Johnson will do very well so am definitely keeping him in the team. And lamps is def my captain, at least for the first 4/6 weeks.

Other than that I'm open for options.

What are the "best buys" for this year? What are the "bargain buys" for this year?
What have I missed? I'd like to have Anelka up front, but can't find the 3.5m without getting subs that will be pure useless.
