So i was walking out of the library on the Aungier St. campus today and was approached by two Chinese girls to give my "opinion" on some photos slides they had constructed for their "project". Told me that it was part of a survey they were conducting. They were hiding in the small little area beside the lift outside the library entrance.

Being the happy go lucky guy I am I obliged, so they brought up this video on their laptop about Christianity and stuff and were asking all these perosnal questions and trying to convert me. Eventually they told they were Korean evangelists..... I'm presuming the same ones who were "escorted" off the UCD campus a while back.

Has anyone else been approached by these and also would I be within my rights to ask the porters to get them off campus because I object to their presence when they aren't even students of DIT.....

    Definately tell the porters.

yes, telling the porters would work, but they will keep going around DIT campuses - once they know where Aungier Street is, they will also be able to find out where Bolton Street and Kevin Street is, etc.

They will still be able to sneak in, no matter how vigilant the porters will be. These people work in groups, for instance, three people may turn up on one day, and three different people may turn up on another day.

I was working at the reception of an apartment block a few years ago. We had these religious fanatics that would come in asking if they could talk to residents and leave promotional material. They used to try to convert us as well. One day, I slipped out for a few pints and when I came back, they were at the reception. I was a bit tipsy and began ripping the p*ss out of them. Was breaking my arse laughing at them and everything. They took it well for a while but finally one of them lost his patience and hit me over the head with a bible  now I know where the phrase comes from :D

They can be quite annoying at the best of times.
I normally laugh, or just ignore them.

    Sad fcukers tbh.

Well if you want to go down that route..... they weren't even Irish they were Korean Evangelists. I very much doubt they were tax payers.....

I dont think we play that game, do we? If something is open to the public it includes tourists. No university is off limits.

I understand where you're coming from and I agree thats tourists shouldn't be restricted from any public places.... what I'm saying is their whole reason for being in the college was to undertake this evangelical mission, which in my opinion , is not appropriate for an educational institution.

Fair enough, third level institutions are funded by the department and hence are "public" but for arguments sake does that mean that some homeless dude can insist on sleeping in the foyer simply because its publicly funded?

I've heard of the porters asking individuals to leave so I'm guessing its within their remit to remove groups/individuals who they deem to be inappropriate

Also the manner in which I was approached leads me to believe they knew bloody well they shouldn't be there. When I was done they retreated back to a shady cul de sac ......

Proselytizing is generally off limits on most campuses. I remember years back in UL there was some crazy guy broadcasting from a car park with a megaphone.
