now this is getting mad,lol,me and my partner are nearly killing each other over which way this figure is going,he sees it clockwise,hes right handed and 33,steel galviniser....we both see it completly different,he cant understand how i cant see it his way and vice versa!!!

from a side angle,when it looks like it's rotating (to me),it's like theres a faint sight of a foetus in inside the human figure. on a really stupid note now,the full on frontal view of the figure's stomach area makes it look like theres an alien's head there - big,slanted eyes and enlarged cranium. :pac:

Thank you to everyone who took part so far. The researcher has thanked everyone and has shared the results so far. BTW, I'm not expecting anything, the person researching this has a hunch though, and I can't explain it, but I'm 100% sure it's explainable, I'm filling people in as I find out.

Thank you for your response to the PET image that I circulated earlier.

Your impression is important and verifies a hunch with respect to a visual illusion. I think it has something to do with a lack of depth cues - but I'm investigating it. It the first in a series of experiments that I hope to do and I think its somehow related to the Spinning Dancer illusion (check wikipedia).

I will post a copy of my full report on the findings as soon as it is available.

For results so far, there is quite a range of observations, (and there is NO 'right' answer!) as follows:

40% Moving Clockwise only
5% Moving Anticlockwise only
11% Moves both ways - equally
26% Moves both ways - Clockwise predominates
18% Moves both ways - ANTI-clockwise predominates
0.4% The figure is stationary

There is no apparent difference, so far, with regard to sex, handedness or age of participants, but I'm continuing to gather data and checking the statistics as I go.

I also appreciate all of the comments received. Thanks again.

i went back and looked again and got the same result but then it twicted and turned the other way for a half turn then back anti-clockwise. it made me jump, i kept watching and after another 10 or so turns it changed direction again(making me jump again) for half a turn then back anti clockwise again.
