    Any news on the supposed reading of the complaint findings by TV3 on-air before the show starts?

    75 people wasted their time ringing in as Fiona goes off to get her mic fixed.

    thought peter was going to roar an insult down the line after he asked "am i live on air", fiona looked nervous but unfortunately he only gave an answer

    Answer = 24 + 2^50

    EDIT:

    Too tired to do it accurately last night. Here's the precise answer:

    See if they explain it here in an hour: http://www.playtvireland.com/?page=solutions

  • Subscribers Posts: 2,670 ✭✭✭.BrianJM

    16 + 8 + 27

    D + 15 + 27
    =

    Note D underlined twice so:

    500000000+42=50,000,042 or as given

    so their answer is not the highest. See HERE

    They never tell you how they come up with all these ridicolous answers.
    Even in the paper/magazine quizzies they tell you how it is solved....but not these con artists - they won't! most of them aren't solviable anyway.:mad:

    The answer page:

    01.12.2009

    Extra Matches: - 5 x 10000000 + 42

    WRONG AGAIN

    ~~~~
    missing a 0
    oddly enough, the DVR stopped recording half way through
    anyone else get it recorded?
    By the way, if the wrong answer was in the envelope, there was no chance of the prize being won, and therefore constitutes a valid ground for complaint.
    How can they possibly say that's only moving two matches.
    Mystery! I get Auld-Yin's D with double underline, but can't see how to get there from 16. Just changing the 8 to 15 requires moving two matches.
    And the answer wasn't the highest possible anyway.
    Same old tricks...
    Center line of 8 and bottom-left of 6 for the double underline:
    15 + D(double bar) + 27.
    But this might be classed as advanced Roman (hybrid-)math. Not really in keeping with the spirit of "fun and entertaining".
    From what I can make out they removed one match from 16 making it 15 and removed the centre match from the 8 to make a 0 or D in the play tv world.
    They then placed both matches under this 'D' 500 x1000 x1000 or 5 x (10 to the power of 8) and finally 15 plus 27 equals 42. Hence the scribbled answer 5 x 10^8 + 42
    The obvious complaint is that the figure they consider to be a D or 500 is to most people in fact a zero, but then they have used roman numerals before.
    Sneaky but they have been guilty of worse. While the answer is wrong on their website I'm sure they would claim a simple typo.
    We could ignore one of the two plus signs (in playtv land anything is possible) and so 15 + 8^21 is an even bigger number again. Hey if they can say a 0 is a D why can we ignore a plus sign :D.
    Hell even better remove two matches from the 8 to make a 3 or in playtv land an M (1000) on its side and underscore this twice. Ahh playtv land Willie Wonka's factory has nothing on it.
