    Sorry I think TV3 really want to state

    TV3 would like to tell Mr ____ to piss off because the show is off the air, and out viewer enjoyment waned since Mr ____ last complaint so we took it off the air, Mr ____ might see this as a win, but in reality we did nothing wrong. We can verify through a formula that we did nothing wrong and in actual fact were bring entertainment to our audience through Play TV.

    Well done Bond - This proves what can be achieved .

    Common sense is definately the winner here .

    We never got any enjoyment from that programme - only utter frustration .

    Was at the entrepreneur show at the RDS there today. Was sitting in my seat at one point waiting for a talk to begin and this guy was sitting a fow rows across from me, looked familiar but couldnt figure who it was. A guy came over to him then and was asking was he waiting on this talk or was he free to chat elsewhere, as he got up it dawned on me who it was. Who else only everyones favourite, the one and only JG!! Was so tempted to go over and say hey JG, hows work etc you know you have a fan club on boards.ie :D

    It seems the BAI email is ambigious to say the least. Could that be Thursday night?

    None of the Dechtire complaints were upheld. :( Including mine.

    The one about the dodgy internet connection was good reading. :)

    TV3 just broadcast the BAI decision mid way through American Idol. it was pretty much the same as all the other broadcasts with no real specifics.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    Did you record it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

    I have a DVR so it is always recording.

    not really. still more complaints to be adjudicated in the may meeting.

    I have one weak complaint left. don't know if others have additional complaints in.

    As JG's no.1 fan (CarolK will make you his no.2) - would love to have been there. Wonder what he was doing ...maybe he's trying to come up with an idea for Dragons Den - But I still think he would be great for television, we can't deny he's a great entertainer. :cool:

    Link below about Play TV having to refund callers over unfairness.

    Surprised at Regtel showing some teeth.

    Irish Times Article About Play TV

    Given the nature of the prizes (up to several thousand per competition) and the nationwide distribution of the programme, TV3 state that it is not reasonable to expect, given the nature of the questions, that if you call with the correct answers you would automatically win a prize.

    The mind boggles.

    They are showing teeth to be let on the board that makes up the new offical RegTel that will be part of ComReg the government Quango that governs Telecommunications, it will now oversee all premium rate telephone numbers, the BAI will stills regulate broadcasters in relation to competitions. I suppose it now means that any similar shows may end up with complaints to both ComReg and BAI. !!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 475 ✭✭jsemple

    In one programme, a “matchsticks competition” mixed mathematical symbols, making a unique correct answer impossible, according to the regulator. It ordered the refund of almost €36,000 spent by viewers on this programme. Separately, the “legs on the bus competition” broadcast on Christmas Eve did not have one unique answer, it was found.

    Have to say that exceeded my estimates of how much money they took in during their prime. I understand they obviously don't get the whole 1.50 and they have costs associated but that was still effortless money, must have quite a come down once they had to start showing call volumes of 10 and less.

    That works out at 133 calls/minute average over 3 hours which Brainbox gets close to

    I'm collecting my award only now seeing that some monies will be refunded.

    Hope all you boardsies are well - even though we were on a mission to get PTV off - I still miss all the banter, witty comments, and fun we had. It was a great experience and thanks to Bond for starting this forum. It was the start of PTV this time last year and to me it seemed to have gone on for years - probably because it was on every night - R.I.P.

    I've met Fiona on two occasions; the most recent being about two weeks before TV3 pulled the plug on the show.

    Well done! Do let us know when the announcement is.

    I contended that a "guess the name in the envelope" was a game of chance and not a game of skill. the commission upheld that complaint against them.

    You should complain about Deal or No Deal and Winning Streak so.

    Winning streak and Deal or No Deal are operated by the National Lottery, and are therefore licenced to operate games of chance.

    Play TV tried to portray itself as some sort of skill based show, which a lot of the time it was not.

    I did say before that play tv did appear to violate the Gaming and Lotteries acts.

    TV3 wants to broadcast the announcement on Friday at midnight. I have voiced my objection to this, not that it will do any good.

    I have also asked that the announcement be a better representation of the complaints and the BAI decision than previous broadcasts have been.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    It should be broadcast in prime-time.

    The announcements are far too vague and do not cover the exact nature of the upheld complaints.

    I think the last 3 announcements have been the same except for the dates of the transmission.

    You will need to be quite forceful with Ms O'Brien.

    And how do you propose that?

    Tell her it is unacceptable that TV3 should be allowed to get away with such a wishy washy announcement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

    I pretty much said that in my response to her this evening in my response.

    Friday night has a movie on 'til 12:35 am Saturday

    ~~~
    I shall be sending a comment after the forthcoming 'last' announcement. Included will be:
    I thought the April announcement was spoken rather quickly (i.e. get it over and done with as quickly as possible)
    also:
    They had a 'get out of jail free card' for the first batch which originated with BCC but was (if I remember correctly) published by BAI.
    and some other bits'n'pieces.
  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana
    The BAI got very upset when I pulled them up on the very first announcement.
  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo
    TV3 are getting bored of these complaints. Cease and Desist. LOL
    1. TV3 points out that this service has been discontinued as of 6 March 2010.
    2. TV3 points out that this service has been discontinued as of 6 March 2010.
    3. The broadcaster submitted the solution to the complaint without further response.
    I suppose the 3rd response didn't say "The broadcaster submitted the solution to the complaint without further response."
    The last outing. I feel all sad now. :(
  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BMollie
    So DIE HARD is the film that is on tonight - very appropriate name....and at the break we will have the complaint read out. Did they not even consider that was the worst named film that they could have put out? I think it's hilarious! :D
    "They died amidst cats, matchsticks, and triangles"
  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana
    Die Hard
    A final 2 fingers from TV3 to all the successful complainants?
  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid
    I think one idea might be to post it to youtube, get everyone here to post it on their bebo/facebook or whatever and get them to get their friends to pass it along.
    the broadcast just happened now and was slightly different to the last ones.
    will upload it momentarily
  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid
    Here you go. remember pass it along
  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana
    That is different alright.
    Did you get any response to your objections?
    they simply said that it was up to TV3 when the broadct went out. all the BAI was obliged to do was to get them to broadcast it at the same time of the day as the show. they don't tell them what day it goes out.
