Arriving 8am at Shannon and need to drive to Clonakilty. I am on no major hurry either.

Google maps have three options - all with similar times and distances.

Option 1: N20 via Mallow to Cork then N71 to Clonakilty
Option 2: N8 via Mitchelstown to Cork then N71 to Clonakilty
Option 3: N21 to Garryduff, then to Newmarket, Millstreet, Macroom and down to Clonakilty

Option 3 seems like the most interesting but also smaller roads.

    Are there other better options?

    Thanks

Option 1 is the most direct route. The N20 from Croom-Mallow isint good in places but looks better than the other two routes. From Mallow-Cork is very good road so I would pick the N20 option easily ahead of any other.

Bear in mind if you choose Option 2 it will be the M8 that you can drive on. Also it is tolled south of Fermoy. There is no N8 it has been downgraded to a regional rd. Google maps is very slow to update the inter urban motorways under construction.
