Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Lifted from Nikon Rumours:

It appears Nikons 2009-10 schedule for release of cameras and lenses has been leaked. At least that is the claim. But it can of course just as well be fantasies or a wish list created by someone having to much time to spend!

    A short summary:
August 4 introduction: (Apparently the end of July presentation is for compact cameras.)

    • Nikon D3000
    • Nikon D300s with Full-HD movie 24 fps, improved AF, self timer + mirror-up, cf + sd-slot
    • AF-S DX 17-65/3.2-4 G VR with 72(!) mm filter

    October 15 presentation:

    • Nikon D700X with 24.5 MP, Full-HD movie 24 fps, improved AF and self timer + mirror-up
    • AF-S Nikkor 24-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR (The FX-dream-walk-around-lens?) YES! Looking forward to this!
    • AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II (What everybody waited for! 82 mm filter, 1530 g)
    • AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G
    • AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G (No VR?)

Purely speculatory but if any truth in it it's a good line up. Will have to wait and see! Looking forward to that refreshed 24-120 myself!

    When I see an f/3.5-5.6 i automatically think it's cheap,Why didn't they make it f/4....

Ah yes but its ED Glass and now with built in VR (never underestimate that!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭DaireQuinlan

Yeah 5.6 at 135mm is just too bad. Ricky has it right, why Nikon never offered any equivalent to those canon f/4 zooms is completely beyond me. All they have is the expensive f/2.8 pro zooms and the crummy 4.5->5.6 consumer zooms.

I do see your point, prehaps we may be suprised when (or if) it does come out. Would be nice to have an alternative to the Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 with a bit more reach but still be a "walk about" lens, the 24-120 would have been a prime target for improvement beyond whats mentioned in the leak.

Edit: The more I think about it maybe I did get over excited a bit early...

yeah that's kinda nice, except they're all stupid G lenses of course. Maybe the new 85 1.4 will push down the price of the old AFD ones to the point where I can feel comfortable buying one second hand :D

Rumors rumors rumors! I seriously cant see 30mpix in a camera, the noise would be too hard to control!

If accurate, the D4/400 look like being dream cameras - especially for any fast moving work. 61-point autofocus FTW!

As for 30mp images - fear the processor and hard drive power you'll need to work those babies.

Tempted by the 300s, but for the time being I'm sticking with the venerable D70s. 6mp doesn't sound alot nowadays, but it's the camera that just keeps on giving.

30+ Megapixel camera are nothing new! (But VERY expensive)
    Hasselblad 50 Megapixel
    Hasselblad 39 Megapixel beast
Mostly for fashion photography for billboards etc....

Yes but the size of the sensor it many times larger on a phase1 digital back compared to a 35mm full frame! Much better noise controll!

I'm happy out with my D300...the D300S's HD movie mode isn't a requirement for me as I've already got a hd camcorder. The dual memory card format is a very nice touch though. :)

But the technology exists, and it will filter down from the larger sensor sized Hasselblads and Phase Ones's to eventually hit the high end pro DSLR market. and once it does that it's only a matter of time until those features trickle down to the mid/budget level SLR's in some format.
Still though , all we really need is 12 megapixels.12 is enough
