    victoria plum would be the most common variety but if i were to choose one myself i would go for the 'opal' variety on st juilen rootstock..its a self fertile tree that produces fruit at least equal to the victoria and should grow to a height of about 3-4m,

    I would agree with Opal. Nice sweet plums and, so far, trouble free. It is best fan trained so it can be netted, otherwise the birds will leave you nothing.
