Maybe we should take a vote.

If we put up a few different type ones and then set up a poll.

Why do we need a vote, when I have provided a very good jersey (designed by other people, I hasten to add). Is this meant to be a democracy or something;).

    +1

The black is nice but wouldnt be into the pink I'm afraid, euro be damned:o also can I suggest that it looks a bit modren, should it not have a more classic/vintage design?

This thread needs a poll, or it's never going to happen.

At this stage I'm not sure I really even know what the options should be.

Personally I think the jersey should be skintight and bright lime green.
Where can I get one like that?

+1 needs to be some sort of rip off of a retro jersey. Frankly even if it is possible I just don't think the current design would look good in wool. The examples on Woolistic's site are all good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭rottenhat

Well, when you lads have finished fighting over the design, let me know and I'll get back onto Woolistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

We need 3-4 different retro designs and a poll which will run for a few days, that would make everyone happy. Unfortunately my designs skills are non existent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭dub_skav

I'm well known for spending more than I should on things I don't need (in good company here) . So depending on design I'm interested.

    +1 for retro
    -1 for pink

Well for one I like this, Perhaps we could keep this base design, I like the 'boards' font and colour scheme and I reckon with the amount of funny boys and girls on this forum someone could replace 'slogans are rubbish' (which I kinda like) with a deep, meaningful witty comentry on cycling with an 'internal joke' element which will keep everyone amused.....

    equito ergo sum - 410

What about a fake sponsor e.g. "Euro Dynamics"?

    ....an 'internal joke'.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭thebouldwhacker

I'm sure this has come up in the past but should / could we ask our Boards overlords to put a few quid towards these, seeing as we are cycling around the country advertising the for profit company?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

They paid the design cost for the first jersey, so jersey buyers just had to pay the unit costs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭thebouldwhacker

You reckon they'll cough up for these invest in this unique advertising opportunity? A gang of cyclists around the country sporting vintage boards jerseys will attract manys the stare.

    ME! ME!

You can't attach illustrator files to posts around here but you could wrap it up in a zip.

Ok fashionistas, here's the template. The .ai comes (courtesy of rottenhat) from woolistic but I've converted it into a line drawing .jpg for those of you who aren't into the whole vector graphic thing. The stripe in the middle can be removed if you like btw.

    So, get designing.

    @niceone ---> Nice one!

I would deffo wear/buy/offer this designed jersey.

Tom - I thought about some improvements - or some constructive criticism - but
    I cannot find any.

Its a wonderful design and I'd love to order one.

Overall I like this, but since you invited nitpicking....

The horizontal orange bars look a bit thin to me. I think they would look better either thicker, or perhaps thinner as a kind of pinstripe? I don't think the 410 on the shoulder looks as good as the Boards domino (although the Four Ten in script is nice), and while I appreciate that the somewhat art deco font for Boards.ie is "old school" I don't think it has the character of the actual Boards logo. Contrasting colour on the pockets is very nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,231 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

Looks great, but I agree about the "410" on the sleeve.

    Maybe something like this instead...

    slice%2Bof%2Bcake.jpg

    ...for maximum "in joke" value.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,604 ✭✭✭petethedrummer

Very nice. Though I'd prefer back pockets to be the dark blue colour. And the 'Four Ten' text to be removed from the front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭Vélo

    I'll have that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

Cool, an alternative Swords jersey :)

It's a damn sight nicer than the current one, Tom.

I think it's a great design, if the colours are the exact same ones as the current and not a bright orange it will be smashing :)
I think we should be keeping the writting on front, back, sleeve ... if you want some cake mention ...

Great job mr niceone, I see you have been putting your free time to good use - perhaps a career change is on the cards ?
I like the "four ten" on the front, although an alternative might be "four one oh"? edit: or maybe not.
Another suggestion would be to put 410 on the back pockets, in the style of a race number pinned on.
Only other concern would be how it goes with the existing shorts etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

I like it- I would take the "Four Ten" off the front but leave it on one shoulder but in a different style.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

I like the in jokes, but not sure I'd like to be wearing something that is asking for cake - we're not all 50kg climbers you know :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

Oh, is "Equito" not to do with riding horses rather than bikes? I presume it's supposed to be "I ride, therefore I am" or similar?
    haha
    "Carpe laganum" FTW :D

Actually, I think you're right there. I'm tweaking it now for a little more balance.

means rottenhat and petethepercussionist will have to battle that out among themselves. You can't please everyone, but if everyone is equally displeased and giving you directly opposing instructions on how to proceed you might have found a tenable middle ground. As they say.

Cake. Of course. The answers is always cake.

I'm surprised the euro brigade haven't descended demanding more pink. Any minute now I suppose.

I await the designs of others too btw, I'm brilliant at constructive criticism.

Mmmm Latin was invented before bikes ... so unless there is a latin word for 'cycling' ... in modern latin street talk, which doesn't really exist unless you are a priest, 'Equito' is just perfect.

    needs more pink, there.

Would like to see a black and pink version alright, might give it a go when i get home! Alright i have a feeling my very limited computer skills will mean it will be crap!

I know, but some other smart ass will likely point it out when it's too late to change it and we're all going to have to go and buy bloody horses.

Fair call. Unfortunately I'm **** at design so won't be contributing but hopefully we have a few more graphics heads on this board.

Maybe we can put a call in on the Digital Art & Design board. What specs do we have here regarding colours/design on the wool?

There is no latin verb for "I ride a bicycle", which is odd when you don't think about it.

As far as I can work out most romance languages seem to just use the verb to go by bike and don't have a word for ride in the anglosaxon sense we do.

veho bicyclo ergo sum lacks punch.

Probably better off eliminating everything that people object to, for a classic minimalist design. The more I think about it, the more I think that having a lot of text scattered around the place makes it look unattractively busy and subtracts from the fundamental design.

Retro wool jerseys are to be worn with plain black shorts. That's the law.

No. Lycra will do for shorts. BLACK lycra.
