Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It would depend on the type of course you are thinking of doing....U.L. would have a certain amount of prestige.

Bearing in mind that I quite like UL and it deserves my liking it, prestige my left testicle. That prestige gap isn't even worth much when you're sitting on the nightclub steps at 4am, let alone when you're sitting in an interview.

It really depends on what kind of course you want to do, what specific course you want to do and what your learning style is, though the latter isn't likely to be something you know until after you've started in one institution or the other. And even then it's best guess, based on what you think the opinions of employers will be in a few year's time.

If you want prestige go to Oxford or MIT or an institution that's older than your parents. Given that UL has been around for 20 years as a university and 40 years as an institution in total, the college is still pushing the new kid on the block, fresh approach, better than those older stuffy universities marketing regime. Which oddly enough, is precisely what LIT is pushing as well. The reason they're doing that is that TCD get to push the prestige card.

For what's better with regard to job prospects, it mostly comes down to faculty, course reputation and of course the qualification and standard of qualification you come out with. The style of teaching is very faculty dependent regardless of which third-level college you consider, just as much as it is at second-level. Hence it's not a question that can be answered without knowing what're you're thinking of. And even then of course it varies - there are diamonds in roughs and there are bad apples in big healthy barrels (in other words, there are good, and unfortunately bad, teachers everywhere)

Don't get me wrong, UL's a fine college. Incidentally so is LIT. UL has its own pub - that may be important, it may not be. LIT has a working radio studio - that may be important, it may not be. And obviously, there's a long list of other things, some related to social life, some related to academic life. But because both colleges (and campuses) are comparatively new, neither of them get to push the prestige card. As you might expect, people will push UL more on this board. You'd expect nothing else, especially given that a majority of people who use this board have attended one of the two colleges, not both.

But it really depends on what kind of course you're doing. If you don't know what course you're thinking of doing and you're really making a choice between the two institutions, that's probably the wrong place to start. So what kinds of courses were you thinking of?

Well do a search of this forum, there's no shortage of information on Business in UL. Great course by the way in my opinion.

Ive attended both UL and LIT and as far as the better college experience, teching practices etc go I much prefered UL. The facilities such as the library, arena,PC rooms surpass those of LIT.

I found in particular LIT has a very "school like" sense to it where students are kinda treated like your straight back in school which I found extreemely irritating. UL on the other hand have much more approachable lecturers and TA's.

All just in my opinion of course.... :)

Just completed the business course in UL and i found it very good it gives you the option of deciding after a year of choosing what you want to major in whether its accounting, insurance, marketing, managament etc. Also in UL you go on co-op for 9 months which you dont do a LIT which you get practical experience and a good referenece.

Hope this is some bit helpful in making your choice.

If considering Business degrees in both I'd say UL has the advantage due to co-op, however, for Accountancy - LIT graduates generally get more exemptions to pursue professional accountancy exams.
A big difference between the two is, as someone said, school vs college. UL is 3 times the size of LIT, a massive, beautiful, sprawling campus with excellent facilities - if you really embrace it you'll love it, however many find it too big and intimidating as class sizes are bigger, it's bigger etc.
LIT on the other hand is smaller, more compact, not as attractive a campus but there's a more familiar feel as generally all lecturers will know students - that can't always be said somewhere bigger.
    Best of luck with it......

When doing the BBS degree in UL, you can major in Marketing or Accountancy, as well as getting a broader view of Business. Economics, Risk Management, HR, Marketing and Accounting are all covered in the first 2 years, and you choose a major option in 2nd year, which allows you to specialise.

The Marketing aspect is especially interesting imo. Although it has changed on the new course, but for the better too I'd say.

Also, in UL, lecturers are approchable, even though it sometimes doesnt appear that way. But as soon as you start make an effort, its amazing how quickly they remember your face/name and will give you as much help as they can.
I've been in college in an IT also, and it is more like secondary school, but that also has its benefits such as familiarity.

But when it comes down to it, I dont think anywhere is as good as UL. I love it so much I'm staying to do a Masters here, and who knows after that!

I'm not in college yet but I've heard the exact same thing about the atmosphere in LIT being similar to that of school. I've heard they take attendance and students are babied as they would be in secondary school, such as getting in trouble for being late etc.

This isnt my experience though so don't quote me on that! :p
