Hi, I was hoping someone could help me. my wife is Korean and I would like to get some Korean channels for her to watch. I know that different channels are available on different satellites and would like to get as many channels as possible for her. I know nothing about satellites so was wondering if anyone could give me advice? I heard a motorised system can pick up multiple satellites so would this be best? I would sincerely appreciate any help. Thanks.

I thought Korea not fond of Japan?

There are two Japanese pay channels JSTV1 & JSTV2.

There is one Korean channel, but in English :)

    Arirang World 12207 H SR 27500 FEC 3/4 @13E

There is one Thai channel and one Vietnamese also on 13E.
    All same transponder.

On the Badr satellites at 26E, there is Arirang mentioned earlier and there is the additional KBS World. The Japanese channel NHK World is also available. These would require a 1.2M dish, but you would also have the benefit of a number of free channels which show a lot of series/films in english e.g. MBC 2, 4, Persia, Dubai One etc...

    KBS World - 12054, V, 27500
    Arirang - 12111, H, 27500
    NHK World - 12073, H, 27500

Thanks very much for all the help.I am a complete novice to all this so I would appreciate your help with the following. Apogee, are those Korean channels Arirang & KBS World, free or would I have to subscribe? If so do you guys know who I would subscribe to? Also in terms of the actual dish, a 1.2m, where could I get one and would any satellite installer be able to fit it to get the channels mentioned? Once again thanks for all yer help!

Arirang is free. But almost entirely English Korean TV

    KBS I don't know. Have a look here http://www.lyngsat.com/badr.html
very pale listings are free channels, according to that KBS is free also.

1.1m triax is max for an ordinary Motor (Motek sg2100 or similar). Power for motor is from setbox via LNB coax.

1.2M and larger needs a more expensive 36V system. Separate controller box has separate 36V cable to motor. (automatic though).

I can confirm that Arirang, KBS World and NHK World are all free on 26E - I checked prior to writing that post to see if they could be picked up in the clear on a 1.2M.

As to sourcing a 1.2M, it depends where you're based. In Dublin, Satworld sell a 1.2M for €149 or a 1.4M for €199. The 1.4M would give you a more robust signal, particularly in rain.

Satellite TV in Mayo sell an Andrews 1.2M for €120 - this is likely to be of superior quality to the ones above.

Some couriers will deliver those dishes, just be very careful to check they haven't damaged the dish when you take delivery of it.

Either of the above outfits would do installations if you live nearby. If you're not, then a list of other stores is here:

You'll need someone with a bit of experience who know's what they're doing, not the monkeys Sky engineers who spend all their time throwing up minidishes. It would be better if the dish is kept near to the ground, ideally on a plumb pole concreted into the ground. I wouldn't bother with a motorised setup for now - you could add 2 or 3 extra LNBs on a multibracket with a diseqc switch if you were interested in pulling in a few other satellites.

Thanks a million for all the advice, it's been a great help. I am based in the west Cork area, so was wondering if anyone would have an idea of someone in this area that could install a satellite along this spec for me? Once again thanks a million!
