Help with meaning of tattoo

I hope someone on here can help. I was talking to a guy recently on holidays and he had a tattoo on his elbow. In really like the design but i dont know what it means or even if it means something. I got him to send me on the pictures.

Probably means nothing. Not all tattoos have to have a special meaning, this isnt Miami Ink

He's the one got it done - presumably he chose it for some reason.

It looks a lot like a polynesian tattoo,so each symbol of the tattoo has it's own meaning.If you found out the names of the symbols it would be easy to find out the meaning,I think your best bet would be to ask him.
