Nice gentle recovery on grass at the local GAA fields, plus about 15 mins stretching and some glute exercises.

Up bright an early this morning - busy day ahead!
Hit the track in Charlesland, was actually nice to have the place to myself.
With the 2m, 3k and 1m races on the horizon have introduced an old favourite interval session, 10 x 300, with 60secs recovery.

    Warm Up
    Static and Dynamic stretching
    4 x 50mts
    10 x 300mts @ 1500m pace (59.00)
    Time (HR)
    1. 56.62 (144)
    2. 56.65 (151)
    3. 58.09 (152)
    4. 57.61 (155)
    5. 57.36 (143)
    6. 58.11 (151)
    7. 56.89 (156)
    8. 57.00 (152)
    9. 57.80 (156)
    10. 54.00 (148)
Warm down and some static stretching.
Felt fine doing these, a little on the fast side in reflection, but I felt in control. Focussed on form and what I was doing with my arms and feet.

1 hr @ 8.15 pace planned for tomorrow.

    WTD - 27.5
    MTD - 99.8
    YTD - 1016.5

Pretty much as planned this morning, met with some folks from the club in Shanganagh, went for an easy 8 mile trot in 1:06.
Glutes are a little sore from the exercises and session yesterday, will need to talk nice to the OH this evening ;).
2 days to recover for the 2 mile on Tuesday, so 20/30 mins easy on the cards tomorrow.

    WTD - 35.5
    MTD - 107.8
    YTD - 1024.5
    Consecutive Days - 44

Went out at lunch time for my normal pre race 4k easy.
Then disaster strikes (almost) in a field where I have run hundreds of miles, 8mins in I went over on my right ankle in a hole about 6inches deep, I actually heard a cracking noise, I feared the worst as I hobbled to standstill, I waited about 30secs having a little prod around, but soon felt confident enough to walk and seemed to walk it off. I completed the run slowly and it seems to be ok. Due to my previous injuries my gear bag resembles that of a door to door salesman for Vulkan neopren compression supports (I could probably make up a half a wetsuit:D) - so I whipped on the ankle support as a precaution. I'm really nervous when I go over on my ankle I had 2 bad ligament injuiries on both while running before.
Anyway so far so good and I hope I'm compressed and not depressed, may try a mile in morning before deciding on Raheny.

Well ankle seems ok, actually it's lower down more the outside of the foot, but I think I played my get out of jail card, a little twing here and there but not serious. Got my training schedule for the next 3 weeks, so thought I'd stick it up.

Well travelled in from Wicklow for this one (think I'll work from the office next Tues), about 90mins in the car, but was there nice and early.
Walked down to St. Anne's and went for a 5min jog to try out the ankle, could feel a little pain when turning right, but not too bad, so I jogged back around to the club house to register.
Went to car and decided to wear an ankle strap and applied some tiger balm to the area to ensure it was warmed up.
Went for another 10min jog and everything seemed ok, so back to car and into the race gear.
Got to the start and went through my pre race stretches and strides, met christeb before the start and we had a quick chat.
Started off at a reasonable pace on relatively flat course, basically 2 laps of a triangle, tried to stay with a little group of 6 but they were going a little fast for me. First lap came around pretty quickly and the split was 5:40, Tadgh Twomey (jnr) started coming back to me so I worked to get on par with him and we worked together to try and reel in a group of 4, we got up on the back of them with about 400 to go and I managed to finish 3rd out that little group with Tadgh and a guy from Raheny getting the better of me.
Anyhow finished in 11:25, 5 secs ahead of my target and a whopping 56 sec Masters PB :D, looking forward to next week!
Finshed with about 2k of a warm down, for about 5.25 miles in total.

Not much to report, slow recovery run after the race yesterday, 5 miles @ 8:30 pace. Happy to say no stiffness from the race and no reaction from the ankle :D.

Just an easy run in between races and sessions, club were doing a 5k tempo @ 10m pace, so I warmed up with them and then myself and Joe went for trot. 10.6k in 55:53 - about 8:30 per M pace

Hi beepbeep, really is a great log, one of my favs already.
Just looking at your race time targets and I thought the 1500 looked a little soft :D( I could be very wrong, normally am) but I can see you going quicker, will you race in the D race or in a quicker one, I'll be throwing myself in the D race and will be hoping to improve on 3rd last :D

I hear ya, 1500 was always a tricky distance for me, I never had that pure leg turnover to do the distance justice. When I ran 9:09 for 3000, the day before I ran 4:24 for 1500, Hamilton says it should be 4:15 - go figure. I just presume for me between 3k and 5k is my optimum and if I focus on endurance training (which I struggle with) which will be the plan for the Autumn (already discussing a 16 week mid Sept to Jan XC and mileage plan with the club coach) maybe I can hit my 10k goal late Spring early Summer. The 1500 will be the D race, will be eyeballs out , but don't expect fireworks :D.

Start on this one by saying opps, so used to doing even rep sessions have just realised that this session should have been 5 x 600m, I done 6 .
Anyway, hit Charlesland, just one other guy there getting a hard time from his coach for not getting up quick enough on his 200's.
    Warm Up
    Static & Dynamic stretching, plus 4 x 50mt strides.
    6 x 600 @ 3k pace (2:06) with 2min recovery (I walked to 200)
    1. 2:04
    2. 2:04
    3. 2:04
    4. 2:04
    5. 2:06 (The heavens opened for a biblical like downpour)
    6. 2:04
    Warm Down

Very happy with the consisteny for this session, even if I did go +1.
Took a few reps to get my first 200m right, was hitting 39 instead of 42, managed to get it to 41 by the 3rd rep.

    Sat July 25th

Well this morning was one of those 'isn't it great to alive' & 'Iknow why I run' mornings. Great weather, out nice and early and the body feeling alright. Decided to add a few miles on this morning so I can do a bit of a mini-taper for last of the Raheny 2M series. So I headed out on my regular 1hr route from the house, but slowed it down a little, mapmyrun has it at 12.8km, my GPS has it at 12.4km (which TBH feels more accurate).
Anyway nice and easy at 8:04 pace, stopped half way for some streching and all done and dusted in 1:02:07.
Hit a little personal milestone today as well, 50 consecutive days running since the Wicklow Way Relay :D.

Great consistency! Admiring your dedication. 50 straight days is great and you're knocking out those splits very well. I must get along to Charlesland myself some day.

Easy 4k run around some football pitches, really wanted to run faster, longer, stronger as one of the logs go, but an easy 20mins it was before the 2M race tomorow night.

Yesterday I was harbouring secret aspirations of dipping under 11:20 for this one. But I shelved those thoughts after a tough day in work, up at 6am, first meeting at 7:30am, missed lunch and grabbed a sandwich and Muller light about 3pm and actually felt wrecked during my warm up, plus it was cool, windy and damp - however.
Warm up slow at 8:20 pace for 2 miles, followed by stretching and about 6 x 50mts strides and some dynamic stretching.
Race kicked off and I found myself in the same position as last week a little detached from a group running a bit too fast for me, could see Dave from Raheny ahead of me and the plan before the race was to stick with him as he finished 1 place ahead of me last week, but he was too hot for me on the 1st lap and worryingly Tadgh Twomey Jnr was disappearing out of sight, so I just stuck my head down and kept working hard.
First lap came around and surprise I was 2 secs up on last week, tbh I thought it was going to be 5 secs down, this gave me some confidence and I started pushing really hard to catch a group ahead, plus I heard someone shout 'come on Katrina' at the runner behind so male pride took over ;), kept pushing and passed someone with about 800 to go and had Dave in my sights now, I had measured that the bus shelter was 500 from the finish and took Dave here, with a bit of pace, as last week I got this close but he was faster over the last 400 by 1 sec, he tried to respond but I pushed again which was enough and was closing on another guy so head down for a fast last 200 and took him quiet comfortably to hit the line in 11:21, 4 secs improvement on my M40 PB last week.
Finished off with a 2M warm down and some stretching.
Still a bit of work to be done to hit 3k target, but that's 2 weeks away, so feeling confident and looking fwd to the 1500 next week.

    Thurs July 30th

Long week in the office (end of quarter fun & games), felt wrecked heading for this one, but managed to drag my sorry a$$ around 10k of the beautiful Parkland that is Shanganagh, in just over 50mins. Off now for 4 days, going to move my 400's to Saturday morning and just go for a gentle jog tomorrow. A couple of Budweisers are calling me as I type :p

    Fri July 31st

Was woken this moring at 5:30am with my 4 yr old daughters foot on my head, so no sleep in for me, went downstairs put on the news and once I seen the weather forecast, it was on with gear and up to St. Pats for a trot, 2 miles easy @ 8:10 pace, followed by 2 slightly quicker @ 7:50 pace. Hope everyone else misses the rain that's due :(.

    Sat Aug 1st

    Warm Up
    Static & Dynamic Stretching
    4 x 50mt strides
    6 x 400m, with 2min recovery @ 1500m race pace (1:18).
This is just really a ticking over session, with another race on Weds, quantity is low and recovery is long to maintain fitness while trying to stay fresh.
    1. 1:17
    2. 1:16
    3. 1:17
    4. 1:17
    5. 1:17
    6. 1:16
Warm down and some static stretching.
Felt good doing these, nice and sunny with a stiff breeze down the home straight, the odd reps felt slightly harder finishing against the breeze.

    Sun Aug 2nd

Today was prescribed as just get out an run for an hour, so headed out the door at 8:10 pace, just after 2 miles I run a nice 3.6 mile loop (Rathnew, Hunters Hotel, Ashford, Rathnew), as I was feeling sprightly I increased the pace a little for this loop to 7:30 pace and then back down again, so ended up with 7.7 miles in 1:00:22 (7:50 pace).
