    Hello.

Was in a bike shop in Raphoe today which has very few bikes in stock and was just wondering if there are any other bike shops in Donegal?

Thought there was one on the church lane in Letterkenny but it is closed , have they moved ?

That one on Churh Lane closed about three months ago. There is a bicycle shop on the Main Street in Lifford. If he hasn't got what you want, he will get it for you. Just remember to haggle with him. ;)

Wouldnt really count Halfords for buying a new bike, they only keep the same brand. Although they make up for the lack of selection of bikes by having a great selection of accessories .
Im after a road racing bike and I haven't a clue where to look. Will try Liffford.

    Thanks.

Dom Byrne's in Ardara is a good bike shop. Havn't been there in a while but was well stocked the last time I was there.

i think the cycle to work scheme has cleared a lot of stock from irish shops there seems to be a shortage of bikes in the price range here (€1000)

been looking for a road bike myself but here arent too many options round here
theres a dozen threads on buying road bikes in the cycling forum

Halfords in Letterkenny is an exception to their usual stores in that the guy down there actually knows how to service bikes properly. They do have a good selection of bikes also.

When I got my bike, I was told by a few people to stay well clear of halfords when buying bikes.

pot luck really nothing wrong with the boardman and carrerra ranges, like someone said if the shop has a decent mechanic (english guy in letterkenny ? think i met him seemed to know what he was at) other time i was in there couldnt get a word of sense out of them.

lot of snobbery about halfords as well plenty of rubbish normal bike shops too (could name a few)

Visited Bikes & Toys outside Ballyliffen.Lots of professional bikes and stuff in shop.Seems to be home to lot of members in local cycling club-North Pole Club.
They were sold out of the Giant Defy3 roadbike and are expecting 2010 models in few weeks time.Huge demand for roadbikes it seems and shops have been bogged-under with demand. What recession?!!

Fair enough, But where do you take it to have it set up and repaired, There is 2 people in donegal that would have the know how and more important the correct tools and one of them owns a bike shop and the other 1 is retired and only works on his own bikes, If you know anyone that has €20,000 worth of bike tools (Park) Let us know???? . If you want to test a bike mechanic ask him if he can face your bottom bracket, or bleed your brakes, or even set you up on your bike??????.

Yeah agree with you on that. But I do understand the frustration of some people who are just dying to get their hands on a bike and just cant because dealers dont carry the stock.alas local dealers are losing out.have ordered a bike locally and will have to wait til early Sept but the dealer gave me his own bike to try out for a few days which I think is very decent. Also if anything goes wrong with new bike or I want to upgrade I dont have far to go.

well i dont have 20,000 euro's of park tools but i do have every tool i need to strip a bike to a frame and rebuild (recently done with my mtb after a frame respray) have fitted suspension forks (after finding reducers cos i had a 1 1/4 inch headset. i also have a wheel trueing rig. i have serviced my own bikes for ever, never had to do anything on a bike i couldn't do myself (now hollowtech is new to me so facing up bb might be something but i'll cross that bridge ....)

ooh and the focus cayo is really nice

Sorry to hear this shop has closed. The old man working there was a legend. That shop has been there for as long as I can remember. It was a great place for parts and repairs
