It very much depends on your interests as to what people can recommend.

    A bit of Melbourne -

Old Melbourne Gaol is ghoulish but interesting.
Botanic gardens are sweet and have an outdoor cinema during summer
Restaurants and bars aplenty...Lygon St, St Kilda, Chapel St, South Bank etc. Touristy but a good experience, and your oh will enjoy, is the tram restaurant.
Rent a car and see the Great Ocean Road, Wilsons Prom or Grampian National Park and some vineyards, maybe the Yarra valley(can do balloon flights here too).
If you like sport, there are lots of live viewing options.
    Gambling - Crown casino

The opera house, bit obvious i know, but i really loved the buzz around the area, Coogee, Bondi, Manly, Palm beach, if u rent a car, didn't get to the blue mountains this time, but i will next time, as i'm told they're pretty cool!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have a fairly open mind as to what I would like to do. Anything that's different or that I can't do here or that's a nice experience. I would like to see as many different things as possible. Doing the bridge climb in sydney as well as the cycle tour. Going to try snorkel on the barrier reef and the rainforest in cairns as well.

if you are gonna go to palm beach then i would recommend going there on a sunday , the traffic in north sydney is a pain in the ass , it took me well over an hour to drive the 30k or whatever it is to get there , so a sunday probably has the least traffic and will speed up the journey , and tbh there is nothing to really see there , but you can always say you were in summer bay aka palm beach.

never even heard of palm beach, where did that come from? Just when you mention about traffic in sydney and going on a sunday, are there any particular places and dates to avoid in these cities when there?

As far as the Rainforest (Daintree) near Cairns (well its about 2 hours drive I think)....its well worth it. Renting a car is by far the best way to get there and gives you great flexibility. I would recommend stopping in Port Douglas for a night or two on the way (its between there and Cairns and to be honest I much preferred it to Cairns, although Cairns is a better place to visit the reef and go white water rafting from). Also stop at Mossman Gorge, its about another 20 mins on from Port Douglas.

Theres not much accomodation in Daintree so make sure to book in advance. 2 nights in the rainforest is more than enough and I would recommend the night time walk. Its a pretty amazing place and the rainforest basically backs on to the sea and is like some sort of paradise.

Anyway loads to do up in that area so I'd give yourself at least a week up there.

    Hope that helps
