Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Insurance Claim /Car write off

About two months ago my wife wrote off her car in a single vehicle accident. The insurance company came to an agreement with her re the value 7000 euro but said that the scrap value of the car was 800 euro and that they had sold it to a scrap dealer. They then issued her with a cheque for 6200 euro and told her that she would have to collect the money from the scrap dealer herself. No problem she contacted the dealer who asked her to send on the log book and her bank details and told her she would be paid straight away. Now almost two months later despite several phone calls still no sign of the 800 euro.
Has anybody else had to endure this type of shoddy practice, surely the Insurance company should have collected the money from the scrap dealer seeing as they were so quick to give the car to him in the first place.
Incidently this guy wasn't the man who took the car off the road at the scene of the accident.

This is cowboy practice on behalf of the insurance company. The insurance company hould have paid your wife for the full agreed amount,(in this case 7k)and they should have asked her for the logbook themselves. The insurance company sold your wifes car to the scrapyard,so they should collect the 800 euro for the car.You shouldn't have to be chasing down the scrapyard man at all.Get onto the irish insurance federation if your insurance company is doing nothing about it.What insurance company is it by the way...

Insurance companies are gone to hell trying to shaft ppl & they are an endless struggle to deal with. Your wife really shouldn't have accepted the cheque unless it was for the full 7000 or handed over the logbook, the insurance company will only say " oh well you surrendered the logbook of the vehicle & agreed to have the money paid into your account, I'm afraid we can't help you. You'll have to resolve the matter between yourself & the scrap dealer."

You can only really A- keep at the scrap yard or call down in person or B- phone the insurance company & get them to chase the money as they sold the car & they are meant to deal with it all. Fax written complaints, phone them, use every right you can to get them to pay the 800, cos believe me hibernian have an excuse for everything!!
