Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

not really a [modern] dance music question i'm afraid but i assume you guys are the experts when it comes to vinyl!

I just inherited a lot of jazz records and a player. I give them all a good rub of the cleaning fluid i got in HMV before playing. problem is the needle always picks up some amount of fluff and the sound quality goes terrible. I generally remove this with my finger butam concerned this may damage the hardware, which might in turn damage the records.

Whats the best way to remove this? is there any specific equipmnent? also when do you know yoou need a new stylus and where can you getthem online?

    thanks in advance.

You used to get a tiny brush with record cleaners-just blow it off-if the records are very old there will be a lot of dirt/dust on them and if the needle is in good condition this will pick it up, eventually it will clear.
    Pure isopropyl alcohol is best

I don't have many records as I mostly use time coded, but I've never properly cleaned them. Where would I pick up some of this cleaning alcohol??

thanks for the info guys. also for the link. i've started giving them a far more thorough cleaning and it has done the trick nicely.

re stylus replacement how often do you guys replace? i've read on some record sleeves that it should be done every 100 plays but don't know is this correct?

is peats the best place online to get replacement styli and cables and the like?

    thanks again.

if they are really grimey, clean them with lighter fluid, just splash it on and wipe off with a smooth "shammy" type cloth, or an old t shirt, wipe with the groove, not back and forward. just blow dust off the needle or a gentle brush with the finger

You need an anti-static cloth and some isopropyl alcohol.

Needles should be replaced roughly every 6-9 months.
