Just to let you all know all the road from the roundabout at the GMIT as far as the lights at Bodkins are sealed off - car crash happened there awhile ago so all traffic is being diverted to Ballybane and Doughiska.

Yeah, It was a bus crashed into a car.

I was on the bus coming back from Dublin and was sitting near the back and all of a sudden there was sudden brake and a smash.

I'm not 100% what happened but it appeared that the car might have reversed out from supermacs/merlin pub into the path of the oncoming bus.

The car was wrecked and the ambulance crew were on the scene in 2mins.

The passenger of the car (a woman I think) was being attended to by the paramedics for quite a while. She didn't appear to be moving so I hope to God she's ok. :(

I've always found pulling out from there hazerdous tbh and it's even more so now with the bus lane.

Hopefully all are okay. A pretty dodgy spot at times allright, a lot of traffic in the area with Supermacs, Merlin Park Entrance, 3 lanes of traffic, service station.

Pretty good place for an accident to happen, really. Right beside the hospital and all

There's no A&E dept. in Merlin. Even emergencies aren't taken there. And the ambulance would have come from UCHG.

Are you sure? I heard people being treated in Merlin that couldn't've been treated in UCHG. Maybe I'm totally wrong.

The ambulances came from the city direction, presumably from UCHG

All emergencies go to UCHG (or is it noW called GUH?) in the first instance, and then as people are treated they are sent on alternate nights to Merlin for care. So say if you went to A+E on a Monday and needed to be kept in, you'd stay in GUH, on a Tuesday you'd be sent to Merlin and so on. Altho I'm sure there are specialisms that are sent regardless of the night.

The accident sounds bad and I hope the woman isn't seriously injured :( Dangerous spot :(

Ah ok, thanks. That makes sense.

    It looked pretty bad too.

What is said above is correct... if not a bit crazy! (Today being a perfect example)

hope the lady in accident is ok.

Just thinking about it, its a dangerous enough trying to come out of there maybe the bus lane would be better off finishing half way between kingsvalley and supermacs and re-opening after the roundabout? Nightmare coming out of Merlin Park Hospital at times too.

I have seen a Bus eireann buses leave the bus lane when approaching supermacs merlin..

Was coming in the Dublin Road yesterday and there was a Garda at Bodkins turning everyone back. Could see the road up at Supermacs/the hospital entrance taped off and could see that a bus had been involved in a crash of some sort.

    Hope the woman is ok.

This is why it's stupid to reverse onto a main road (need to be confirmed that is what caused it in this collision).

    Irish statue:
    12. (1) Before reversing, a driver shall ensure that to so reverse would not endanger other traffic or pedestrians.
    (2) A driver shall not reverse onto a major road from another road.
    (3) A driver shall not reverse from a place adjacent to a public road onto a public road save where it is clear to the driver that to so reverse would not endanger other traffic or pedestrians.

It's been reported on Galway Bay this morning that the car was actually turning right to park outside Supermacs.

I've heard stories on what might have happened but would rather not them post them here as they may not be fully accurate.

It's also being reported that there are two women in hospital, one of them is serious. Hopefully they recover from this.

    f*ckin' hell!

On a side note, bon secours have an ambulance service, which might explain the whole two second deal.

I don't think they have an Ambulance Service. A lot of private Ambulance Companies do work for Health Insurance Companies that would be going in and out of Bon Secours all the time.

Plenty of Ambulances come out of Merlin Pk after dropping of people with broken bones. There is also a Private Ambulance company based in Ballybane who do 999 calls for the HSE.
