Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Brilliant sight, just wish that....
    a) Some one had told me the shuttle was going to be so f*ing fast.
    b) I had remembered my torch.
    c) I could to the calculation of shutter speed in my head
    d) I still had remembered to take the camera off iso 3200 (used high iso to take test shots)
    e) I had thought about the composition before it was pitch black.
    f) I had read the instructions for my remote release

& still it was worth spending an hour outside lying on my back for that sight :)

Cloud cover wasn't great for me for the shuttle. Saw it alright but it didn't photo well at all. Interestingly the glow off the shuttle seemed to orange up the clouds as it passed - didn't come up like that on test shots just before...

Caught a couple of better shots of the Internation Space Station then 20mins later though...

For future reference ! Looks like I saw the ISS as well, awesome night !

Just check this again. Both the ISS and the shuttle should be visible together (weather dependent) on Friday 17th at approx 10.50pm for about 5 minutes. But unless the shuttle is catching the ISS up to dock then they will probably appear as one...

Did anyone post this thread in Astronomy yet? I think they'd find it interesting.

    Their thread is >30 pages!

Yeah but I tended to post links to photography threads in the specialist fora (particularly if they didn't have photos) like Motors for the world rally championship and weather for flooding and stuff...

I was just wondering if anyone did that for this or should I?

Just seen it again tonight - moving a slower then Wednesday night! Camera set up on tripod, remote release and half decent frame set up. 30 second exposure and look grand on the back of the camera on the preview straight after shutter closed. Back into the computer and no image to be found.....:mad::mad::confused::confused::confused:
    ...slightly pi$$ed off

I had a look out but didn't see it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,281 ✭✭✭Ricky91t

Just to let everyone know tonight was the last decent night of it for a while,Although it looked slower it wasn't was just due to it's more southernly route tonight..

longshanks stupid question but is there a card in your camera?

I've often left it out and took shoots and they previewed on screen after they were shot only to notice when i go to look at the photos it says "No card"

Saw it. Kind of glided across the sky, becoming very bright directly overhead.. Good stuff

I've camera a set to not take pics without card in to avoid exactly that. Believe me if it could be done i would forget the card 50% of the time. Looking for more help here...

Edit - sorted now :D(Thanks for help in other thread!)

Probably last attempt due to the poor weather. Was lucky to get this shot as the trail appeared out from behind a huge cloud for about 10 seconds before disappearing again behind the tress!

Not sure if you would be able to get any good pics.I gave a 70-300mm sigma.
Does anyone think I could get anything other than a dot.

Is there any chance of seeing the shuttle tomorrow (26-08-09) morning on account of it's delayed launch.

    is the shuttle launch tonight

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,281 ✭✭✭Ricky91t

Chances are you can't see it,Due to the shuttle being where it is in the sky and the position of the sun,It's too bright down here to be able to see the shuttle catching the sun light..

Check the astronomy and space forum for more info on chances of visibility :)

Astronomy Ireland has all the times here, and it will pass over Ireland.

Skies perfectly clear here in Galway - hopefully the clouds stay away until after the launch - passing over our skies at 5:17am tomorrow (Sat) morning.
