harrington & mcilroy should get through. harrington seemed to struggle today, the wind being up exposed his problems with not hitting driver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

+14 poulter crashed and burned big time thought he'd be a top ten man myself 5 & 9 over ....1 birdie, 2 doubles and a triple today....yuck!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

The resultant double-bogey six was followed by another on the eighth, where he took out his annoyance at a bad drive on the club involved.
"It was certainly done out of frustration," admitted Europe's top-ranked player, who was left with only 13 clubs he could use for the rest of his round.
"It had been in the bag for four years - it's had a good innings - and I didn't need it any more."

lol:D didn't need it any more

nasty double from Woods there, thats 4 shots dropped in 3 holes.. Wind has stayed up so far, no doubt the cut is going to go to 4 imo, maybe even 5 the way the wind is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

Fantastic putt from Tom there and the celebration wasnt too shabby either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭mag

wow, woods looks like he's not arsed!

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

Not sure I'd say that, if anything he's trying a bit too hard. Nice drive on 16 though, a couple of birdies might do it for him. I think the cut will go to 5. It'd be a pity if he didn't make the weekend. He doesn't miss many cuts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

the comeback has begun for Tiger just needs a few more birdies and hell be grand

    tiger playing 18 needs birdie.......watchout:eek::eek::eek:

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

I think +5 will be ok for him, it only needs 5 people to drift out. However there aren't that many peeople still out there. It might not be, needs the one at 18 to be sure of it. Birdies at 16 and 17 show why he doesn't miss many cuts.

    41/1 to win now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭thegen

If Tiger does not make it, it may be down to taking Conno's advice and playing 7 iron off tee:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

    509/1 on betfair

pity he's gone nice to see him on the links

they are a bit short since it looks now like he will miss the cut, with not enough players coming back to 5!

although I'd say the broadcasters and advertisers are out there trying to jinx the guys so that he gets in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

I don't think he'll get in on that mark. He has looked out of sorts the last two days, some really wayward stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

73 and counting inside cut line....................

    tiger may get in yet

can't see it really, edfors nearly finished. then you would need the couple of people on +1 to drift 4 shots out. Not impossible, but the back nine is easier so very unlikely.

I just can't see everyone thats over par and still playing to drop that many shots.

thats it for woods now, edfors finishes on + 4 and Weekly moves to level with only 2 holes left.

BBC must be furious. Ratings will be lower for the weekend coverage.

I doubt it, i'd say they're delighted with the way it's progressing, particularly with the British lads in contention.

I'm glad Tiger has gone home. He showed petulance from the off yesterday and gave the impression today that he didn't really want to be there.

Good showing from the European lads so far. Would love to see Garcia with the jug come Sunday.

Tom Watson will keep the yanks interested as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,108 ✭✭✭Lirange

Watson is a bigger name on this side of the Atlantic. Always overshadowed by Nicklaus in America.

Anybody that has Lee Westwood on their side now is looking good.
He has played some sublime golf and has really learned from his close run in last years US Open. He has a steely look in his eye and has the positive walk of a potential victor.
Not overly crazy about an english winner but if it is to be so I would rather it be Westwood than anybody else..

Would love to see Ross Fisher do the business.....if only his wife could hold in the baby for a few days!! I have visions of him with a 5 shot lead on Sunday only to walk off the course due to his wife about to give birth....

I hear they're gonna allow her give birth in a pot bunker on the back nine. And gonna name the baby 'Toss Pot Fisher'

I used to watch every golf event I could, lost interest in recent years (could be "Schumacher syndrome" plus SKY buying up the Ryder Cup etc), but Watson was a fav of mine when I was younger, him and Lee Travino of the Americans.

I like Vijay's chances. He can still be backed at 14/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington & McIlroy putting in shockers, both near the bottom of the field. McGinley on the other hand is doing well, one over for the championship.

I'm actually enjoying the non- tiger coverage, even though he wouldn't have teed off by now...
Kaymar's interview was a good portrayal of the modern game, what with having a swedish chef being flown in by his sponsors.
Slight hint of jealousy from the old phobies on the commentary team:D.
Mcdowell must be one of the few under par on the front 9

jesus that r&a rules guy ian patterson has some whining voice, reads the rules sooo sllloooowwww and nasaly.........i'd see he'd be only too happy to wreck your dreams................lol

im torn between tom watson and the goose. both would be great open champs. especially old tom though

Real carnage out there today, sets it up nicely for tomorrow. I'm hoping Westwood or Goosen can come through to win it, really don't want Ross Fisher to win it.

Whats wrong with Fisher? Seems likeable enough. I hate Furyk though, does the guy ever show any emotion? Always in the hunt though, even though his swing has been descibed as like an octopus falling out of a tree....:)

all my each ways (top 7s) are in with some kind of shout - mcdowell, mcginley, daly and wilson

    Brilliant :D

I'd say the third last group Furyk/Cink will be lickin their lips....winner might come from them I'd say. I hope its a european winner though, which means Westwood/Fisher now that Jimenez has fallen away. But if Watson wins then it just has to be the greatest sporting story EVER in any sport!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Tom winning would be incredibile alright. If the conditions are difficult, especially windy, I give him a good chance.

He looked in control of his game today which bodes well. Obviously it'll be different tomorrow though, I'm worried he might get a bit nervy on the greens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

    i hope fisher wins too

also on furyk i heard he learned to swing in a telephone box

    wish they were still around..............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,169 ✭✭✭rednik

For somebody like me who grew up watching golf in the seventies I think a Tom Watson win would be incredible and I honestly hope he goes on and does it. It would be hard to find a nicer person than Tom. One of if not the greatest long iron players ever. His putting yesterday was like watching 1977 all over again but I want him to do it again today.

He reminds of the guy from Father Ted who has the most boring voice in the world.

    Hope Watson takes down.
    (bad opening hole)

winning score -3i'd say.......last group just leaving 4th,fisher hacking:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭marbar

i'd have been wishing for a european early on, but the second watson did well i've been rooting for him. it would be a fantastic achievement for him. i think he really needs that wind to pick up and make it a more tactical round

if not him, then i'd love westwood to do it
that lamp post woods is doing very well

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

bit of a disaster hole for Fisher alright, the first attempt from the rough was the problem. Didn't commit to it from a lie that was reasonable. Be doing well to get a triple now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭marbar

it's just amazing to think that my da is only a few years older than tom
if you think how much farther those young guys can hit the ball, and yet hes competing

    C'MON TOM!

The way the field is bunching up a playoff looks a likely bet.
