Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I am looking for some opinions and feedback on how best to display photos on the website I am building.

    Which do you prefer ?

    1. A gallery with click-able thumbnails

    http://www.barryocarroll.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=6463798

    2. A slideshow (that has thumbnails at the bottom when you hover cursor over slideshow)

Which option did you find easier / more pleasant to use ?

Any feedback and opions (including other opinions on website) greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Barry

Slideshows can be messy, especially with slow connections. I prefer the thumbnails.

I like the slideshow, it just has a more professional feel to it compared to the thumbnails.

The slideshow format seems to be standard, but I like flash header designs on the main page, leaving the option of a blog where updated photos are displayed.

I came across a good piece of advice which I used in the anouilh.wordpress blog. With a display setting of one photo per page, it makes each photo stand out and does not distract the eye.

I find a hybred of both is good, something like lightroom/lightviewer. If you have a look at the portfolio on my site you'll see what I mean.

Here's a list of gallery's. Hopefully that will help you :)

I would definitely go with clickable thumbnails. I'd stay away from slideshows as they are rarely done right on websites. Just remember if your showing thumbnails to create the thumbnails in photoshop (or similar first) as the quality of the thumbnail is far better and quicker to load. When im developing websites i usually include code that enables me to automatically create a thumbnail from the image i upload, however if your trying to show off photos photoshop produces far better quality results but is more time consuming. This link has a nice way of displaying images and takes advantage of the cooliris application too. This link shows what I mean about thumbnails not being resized properly.

I split my own website into two parts. Most photos I want to post simply go to my photo page, while those I want to comment on I also add to my blog:

Was just going to suggest a lightbox solution to this too. Very easy to implement too. Loads of different versions with slightly different names out there for search around for your favourite.
