Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi lads,

We were clipping the sheep on the farm at the weekend there. We usually get a man in to clip the sheep for us. I was wondering how much it would cost to get set up with shears and a generator for running them?

Any information would be great lads. I'm just trying to figure out would it be a better investment to get that kit or continue paying some man to do it every year. We only have about 100 head so it’s no big scale operation.

    Cheers in advance.

a big (professional) shears is expensive although can be got second hand. 30 years ago i bought a small shears with the motor on the handle and it did all my work - 200 sheep a year for 25 + years. Saved a lot of money but is hard work and harder than big shears cos of extra weight on the handset and much slower of course. Plus of course you will shear several hundred sheep before your shearing develops to a professional level as regards appearance.

Suggest you keep hiring with only 100 sheep.

being part time with close on 400 ewes found it difficult to organise shearers when suited me, so invested 1,000 euro in a machine three years ago, already had a generator think it cost 650 euros. not the quickiest but get through them. Do get help from brother inlaw at weekends but it can be handy compared to hiring is shearers if suits....
