Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After a massive mechanics bill last week im absolutely smashed until the end of the month and was havin a heart attack how i was goin to manage. But, ive surprised myself with how little ive spent in the last few days.
    • Have been web texting
    • Stopped buying the evening newspaper and reading it online
    • Make essential calls in work
    • Bring my lunch to work
    • Bussin it to and from work (saving €32/wk on petrol and toll fees)
    • Made own popcorn and brought it to the flicks on sat eve
    • Cooking proper dinners and actually eating leftovers the next day.
Im amazed more at the amount i used to spend by just being pure lazy. I might just get to the end of the month without having to raid my savings :D

Fair play, was actually surprised by how much I saved on credit. Nearly all my friends are on Vodafone so I switched over the other day for the free calls and texts and have saved a bomb. 20 Euro credit lasts me nearly 2 months!

You could ask the mechanic to keep the car now, you're getting the bus. :P

How much money do you reckon you could save per week/month/year OP? You could lose weight by eating 'proper dinners' while saving for a holiday or something. I want 15% though.

Thanks for the sound advice Annie , however there are even more ways to live cheaper , like :
    • Only eat twice a day
    • Dont make telephone calls at all
    • Cancel Sky subscription
    • Dont buy take-aways
    • Get a lift to work
    • Dont keep money in your wallet
    • Dont use credit cards nor laser cards
    • As you said yourself - eat leftovers
    • Dont buy cigarettes - dont buy drink
    • If you want to use internet , go to your local library where its free

Staying home from the cinema could have saved you even more money than actually making your own popcorn.

I once became a vegetarian because it worked out cheaper. For a whole 6 months I would survive on maybe .. 15euro a week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 373 ✭✭devereaux17

I can survive very cheaply. as a serious atlethe i do not touch alcohol or drugs. i buy healthy wholesome foods in ALDI. of course my mum buys the food but yes it is very easy to save.

I'm surprised at the reaction to this thread. It's not that bad. Everyone could do with a few suggestions on how we can stop wasting cash (although the OP's suggestions weren't the best).

surly you must have a big + in your bank account rather than a high interest fcukin overdraft before you can test the theory on how much you can live on. I am still looking for the yellow pack stuff in lidl and aldi

It's ok, I know what you meant and completely agree :) I don't have a sweet tooth, which is fairly fortunate because I'm a bit freaky about teeth :/

  • Well, OP's suggestions were all things I always did anyway :( That's depressing.
