Can anyone reccomend some funk-metal??

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here.

I have an audition with a band soon who describe themselves as funk-metal. They've been very vague about their influences, all I could really gather was that they want to fuse funk and metal without getting involved in rapping in any way.

I play bass - I can definitely play funk, and I can kinda play metal - I was just wondering if anyone can recommend some funk-metal (if such a thing truly exists as a subgenre in its own right) bands for me to have a listen to.

    Thanks

Not too sure but I think the likes of Rage Against the Machine and the Chilis is what you're looking for.

Off the top of my head I would say Infectious Grooves, Primus, early Red Hot Chili Peppers, early Incubus , Living Colour, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Suicidal Tendencies, 24-7 Spyz ,Extreme, Atom Seed, early Jane's Addiction and Fishbone.

Cheers. Yeah that was my first thought alright but they said they wanted to avoid rap altogether.

Well thanks for all the suggestions so far guys - I'll start having a listen now.

Agree 100% with Primus, particularly the Brown Album.
No videos on youtube for it but the first track off that album, the return of sathington willoughby,is possible the funkiest rock track Ive ever heard.

First Only band I thought of when I read the thread title.

Pornograffiti and 3 sides to every story are amazing albums.

Man listen too Clutch, COC ,DOWN, PANTERA.The new DEVILDRIVER album is pretty sweet.

These are bands who play funk/groove/power metal.

No they are not you looper, pantera, funk??? your crazy. Dont just reccomend tunes you like, regardless of weather they are suitable or not, chances are OP has heard most of that before.

    Just some advice;)

Give Mr. Bungle's "Mr. Bungle" album a whirl, very funky. Add to that Nuclear Rabbit, who seem to be a very good imitation act.

I think Pantera are a very good choice actually. More emphasis on groove than a lot of their contemporaries.

haha! No way! Groove metal is NOT the same as funk metal.. So cross off Down and Pantera.

I would have put CoC and Clutch as stoner rock/metal no?

Op, Last.fm gives some good results, try their funk metal radio station and free downloads :)

Although they wouldn't be strictly funky in general, genre-hopping progressive metal band Pain of Salvation had some extremely funky moments on their first album Entropia:

    There's a big difference between Funk-Metal and Pop-Punk/Ska.
