Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What has a hasselblad got that my 500d doesn't? Serious question - given the level I'm at now, would there be any benefit for me to go for such a scheme? Serious question btw.
I mean, a Porsche to me at the moment would be pretty useless and I would get basically the same utility as from a Focus... but in the future a porsche would be worth more.

Also, the above impies a homogenous value of time... but we all know that there are certain times of the year that people would prefer to have the camera, and the for the people who didn't get those times, they would need some compensation, so we'd need to calculate value-of-time for those people and adjust the dates accordingly... I'll get my coat....

Interesting, how much is it to rent for 2 weeks ?
How much would tthat cost you for 5 years ?
You could also sell it in 5 years time, and get some dosh back, or upgrade !

gah ! Obviously that other thread disappeared too fast for anyone to read my pedantic correction of Fajitas' 'hassleblad' to the correct 'hasselblad'.

Just plonk down that €500 on an older 500cm body and an 80mm lens and you'll be laughing. The other €12000 will buy a lot of film & processing :D

I was about to say what Daire said, just buy a film body and a lens and you're laughing. Scan the negatives, bishty bosh, you got files to play with on your computer.

    Or buy a Bronica

What the hell would you upgrade to? The International Space Station?

do ya only get one lens with it??

oh you forgot shipping and VAT and Duty so it might be a little more than €500 per person ;)

and it probably wont make anyone a better photographer!!

    :P

2 weeks in the year.... not enough time! :)

And that price is too much, they're as little as $13,000.00 on ebay!

D'ye know when ye get a MAD idea, and ye can't see sense, but then you have this forum to straighten you out ! ;) Era, I knew it was a bit OTT.
Thanks for the other suggestions tho.
    /I don't have €500 to spend anyway ! maybe €50.
    Scan the negatives
I have a few negatives I'd like scanned, where should/could I get that done ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 609 ✭✭✭duffarama

For scanning negatives the only place I know is the dublin camera club, but I'm sure there are places around town you could do it yourself.

Whats the point of such a high megapixel count anyway ? Surely the optics will give way before the sensor does at such a level anyway.

I've done some rather large prints from my Zeiss glass, it preforms to a very high level, for what it's worth - You're paying for pricey glass too :)

As much as I would love to have a go of it.. its a "digital" medium format camera..

The whole idea of medium format is using film and your losing that sense of magic with digital cause you will get your results straight away... Theres excitement in waiting for film to be processed and developed you just cant beat that excitement!

you could goto the other end of the scale and get one of these http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=pinhole+cap or make one

    New idea:

You go 25th's on one of these:http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055623169

Then each go into two weeks each of surveillance photography/private investigating and make the money back in no time :pac:

For some reason I cant get that episode of the simpsons where they all chip in to buy a rare comic and end up fighting over it, out of my head.
