Li'l Rory great outside bet @ 30/1 on Boylesports

Not doubting his chances but if he was a Yank or contential European he would be 50-66/1

He is an outside bet but priced as 7th favourite:confused:,
EVEN if he wins, in the long run, for your sanity thats a no no bet imo!

Hey guys, not really a sports bettor, usually stick to the pokerz. Can anyone tell me what is meant by 'paying 8'? Cheers, sorry for what I'm sure is a retarded question.:pac:

Not really if all you play are winner takes all poker games.

Means it pays to 8th place each way. Which is good since golf usually only pays to 6 ante post.

if you back a guy each way (ew) its two bets
half the bet goes on the win, half the bet goes on the place, top 8 in this case so:

if you back Mr Dodgy Swing at $10ew 40/1
    thats $20
    $10 to win at 40/1
    and
$10 to finish in top 8 at 10/1 (as generally 1/4 of the 40/1)

Top 5? Where on earth do you bet? I've always gotten 6 ante, and 4 during the event. Though from what I gathered regards the PP vs Boyle ad, Boyle always paid one more than PP anyway.

How do you reckon he should be 50's - 66's?? He is ranked 14th in the world, mickelson doesnt play so really 13th, he learnt the game playing links golf and won the silver medal and finished in the top ten in he's only previous appearance and is 4th in the current european money list:confused:

    Fair points all (:o)

Maybe should have said 40-50's ( i see he is 40's with lads)

Just think its a small price on a young lad
a lad who hasnt won a lot of tourni's in what could/should be an er um open open:p (except for probably tiger)

its a bookie protecting price rather than a bookie looking for business price

    Im probably way off though

*& in fairnes i was replying to someone who said 30/1 was an outside bet

There has of course been far more money made Laying Tiger over the years.
This year he has to face extremely dense rough and foul weather two of the things that affect him most.

Lay Tiger to finish in the top 5 @ 1.8 is superb value and the 25/1 about him missing the cut is way overpriced. IMO

McIlroy is a terrible price. He really is.

Hmm not surprised. Boyles, despite being a bookie, dont really like taking bets of more than say a 5er ew......

    Try refreshing etc.

The 30's in boyles is skimpy alright but I think 40/1 available on betfair is spot on, even though i have been argueing like im backing him im not actually cos i thinl he has actually played a bit too much recently and has looked tired but if i was a bookie i wouldnt want to be taking him on at any bigger than 40's tbh

I asked for the thread, better post tip in it i suppose

    pp
    1 pt each way
Perry 55/1 70's with will hill
    Curtis 55/1 66/1 with less place's paid
    Kjeldsen 100/1 1 pt ew

    2pts each way
    Mahan 30/1

    US tourni
    boyles
    2pt each way
Kelly at 22/1 is the class (if you can call him that) of the field and will be looking to win his home tourni which is apparently in trouble (according to RPost)
    .5 pts each way
    Chris Riley 80/1

few 1$ doubles for the fun of it while yer at it

ASHES at 11/10 for a draw is a decent bet, expecting rain

Well lol at thinking that the Boyle's price on an Irish player would ever be close to correct, and I've invested to a medium, size that McIlroy should be longer than 35/1. I would say elshambo's view of his price is much more accurate.

I'm planning to start modelling the golf pretty seriously in the next while once I get a few things out of the way if anyone has any experience of this? Would be a good experience if nothing else, and i have the experience in non-gambling fields to have a respectable model.

Well I posted this in the BBV about golf betting a few days ago, looking to get into it again

    Least favourite
    Tiger Woods:eek::rolleyes:
Gladly Watch him play all day BUT

least fav for purely selfish reasons:rolleyes:, i was making nice change for a skint kid betting on golf before Woods came along and the bookies started taking it serious:mad:
Pre Tiger; Faldo, Normans, Monty's etc were always fav, even if they hated the course

the days of getting 33/1 on the likes of Corey Pavin or Payne Stewart to win an event on his favourite course, in his home town, where he finished 2nd the week before and 5th last year :Betting Heaven;):(

When i worked in leeson st area
Every thursday the lads in Baggot racing used to get the golf prices up on the board just before i came in:D
1st year and a half or so in dublin, bookies payed my rent:D

*note to self, must get back into golf betting

**Anyone here who bets on golf know of anything like the old
    Keith Elliot's "Golf Form" books?
he stopped publishing his a few years ago

You would have to tell me what you mean by modelling:o
having worked in engineering and quit im phobic to words such as modelling even when i really should know what they mean:o

Personally think the money is in spreads with regard to finishing positions etc
www.pgatour.com is a fantastic resourse for all stats etc

    I like this...

    Tiger Woods (13/5) 100pts win
    Retief Goosen (40/1) 10pts E/W
    Sergio Garcia (25/1) 20pts E/W
    Padraig Harrington (28/1) 20pts E/W

    GL all :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭babymaker6

    Stenson 33/1 e/w
    A Romero 110/1 e/w
    Harrington 28/1 e/w
    S Garcia 25/1
    R Sterne 16/1 top s/african e/w
    O Wilson 18/1 top english e/w
    R Allenby 9/1 top aus e/w
and my heart is telling me to back the big easy at 45/1
as much as i respect rory think he s bad value and poulter is even worse value again, proven major winners in the field at bigger odds represent
better value gl to everyone who has a bet
