Can anyone help me convert a UK shoe size to a US size?

I want to buy a pair of shoes from the US online but I can't work out what size I'd be. I'm a UK size 5. Does anyone know what this translates to in US sizes?
Some online conversion charts say it's a 6 and others say a 6.5.
Has anyone had any experience of buying shoes in the US who might know?

You go up 2 sizes for the US so Im a size 6 here and a size 8 US. So you'd be a 7!

    I'm a UK size 5 and I take a US size 7. It's up two sizes.

Thanks very much for the replies everyone.I have googled and used several converters earlier.Half say that a UK 5 is US 6 while the other half say it's a 6.5 in US sizes.Yet I've read that in many peoples experience a 5 equates to a US 7.That seems to be the consensus here too.Oh confusion:).Maybe I should just stick to shoes bought in the EU.They wouldn't be so much of a bargain if I had to return them!:)

Officially, it's just one size up, so you'd take a US 6. But I'm a UK 7 and had to get US 9s.

Does the website not have a chart? Be careful because it's so difficult to tell with shoes!

Different brands in the US seem to have different conversion standards. I'm 5 1/2 here and some brands in the US say on the box 7 1/2 is equivalent to 5 1/2, and some say 7 1/2 is just 5. I find the fit varies hugely between brands and shoe shape too - Guess 7 1/2 fits me but I usually need US 8 in 9West shoes, but 7 1/2 again in Boutique 9 which is part of the 9 west brand. Really need to try them on to make sure!

I am a size 6 here, and am either a womans size 8 or male size 7. The thing with the US, that they have different sizing for gender, and kids sizing. If it's a unisex shoe for instance, it would be the male version you would go for (such as with runners).

I am size 15 UK and size 16 US, I have been buying runners for years from America and I always go one size up!!!

For male shoes you take 1 size bigger in the US than Ireland.
eg I take size 8 in Ireland and i bought size 9 shoes in the US.

For female shoes add 2 to your irish shoe size.
So the OP should take size 7 US
