    Hi there,
Myself and my boyfriends anniversary is coming up, want to book somewhere really nice and intimate.
He would be a very plain eater though, so nothing too out there...
    Any suggestions?

    Hey OP

Funnily enough, despite eating in most of the better restaurants in Cork, I'd be hard pressed to say that any were overly romantic.

It may seem a strange suggestion (and I don't know your budget) but you might wanna think about the Clarion restaurant. I've eaten in there a few times since it opened and the food is middle of the road, but great quality and the service is usually spot on. Nothing there to scare your b/f I'd imagine. A bit more upmarket would be Hayfield Manor up by UCC and while the restaurants not overly intimate, you could request one of their alcoves, though from memory all their tables are well spaced out.

For food thats simple and suits all tastes, a hotel usually fits the bill, but I'd only go to the places I mentioned for a special occasion.

I took an ex to Hayfield and mentioned at time of booking that it was an anniversary and the chef made a real fuss of us......some extra mini starters and a desert with a happy anniversary message on top and sparklers.....sounds a bit chavvy but it was well done and wasn't charged for.

    Hope this helps :D

Greenes restaurant is romantic if you get a table by the waterfall, but I think the food there is over-rated. Il Padrino is lovely, as is Cafe Mexicana.
Have to say, The Boardwalk restaurant is fab, food is gorgeous, and I really like the bar. Good buzz there too.

Now, I know you said restaurant, but I really would recomend Le Boqueira on Bridge Street. Its a wine and tapas bar, but you could go there and order a few dishes between you. The wine there is gorgeous, they have a lot of Organic wines, and you get huge glasses too!. It is romantic, lots of little booths, low lighting, good atmosphere.

Eco's in douglas is where my bf took me for our anniversary.... the foods great and we got the little area LEFT of the door which is curtained off from the rest, it is a window booth but having the whole place to ourselves was really nice....

    awww....:p

Took my g/f to Barry's in Douglas ..they are doing an offer at the moment of main course , starter or desert, wine or pint for €22.50 . Cannot fault the food.

Ecos is lovely, I love Barrys - but to socialise, or to meet a friend for lunch...as its such a busy pub, I dont think it would fall under the category of "romantic". Like the food there though. Good atmosphere there too, especially on a Saturday night.
