Just got the news that I will be heading out to China in August, leaving on the 2nd. How long will it take to get a tourist visa? I'm only staying for 25 days if its any use. Would I get one by the 2nd?

    A week will do it..
Download the form from the website and have it filled in before you go to the embassy..

Should have mentioned that the visa section is in the consulate 118 Merrion Rd, not in the actual embassy on Ailesbury road.
Also... it can be very busy and there are seperate queues for making application and collecting documents... Don't be afraid to push in, look at the top of the que and make sure you're in the right queue...

    Enjoy China...

Bring evidence of what date you are arriving and leaving China, you flight confimation details should be enough for this, you also need a picture to go with your application so don't forget that!

Sorry but this is a related China question. What is the best way to travel the country? I suppose how long is a piece of string!

Is it as easy as the rest of South East Asia or does the language barrier really make it difficult and makes booking a tour with a crowd like intrepid worthwhile? I hear alot from others who did china that the language is a big thing especially in more off the beaten track places.

Looking to be doing china soon but dont know if we will go the independant traveller way or a intrepid like tour e.g. http://www.intrepidtravel.com/trips/CSN

Also how cheap, expensive is it compared to say vietnam?
