I reinstalled Vista on my laptop the other day but the graphics card is just showing up as Standard VGa Controller (it's an ATI Radeon HD 3470)

I left the drivers disc back in Galway so was just wondering what I could do to fix it.
I tried downloading the drivers off the ATI website (Using the ATI Catalyst yoke) but to no avail, it seems to install correctly but once installation is complete, nothing shows up and Standard VGA is still the display adaptor.

Firstly are you running 32bit or 64bit.

    32bit Driver

    64Bit Driver

Is this the one you tried?

If you still getting the problem. after trying that driver.
You can from within Device Manager remove the standard driver and rescan which can fix this issue on occasion.

My computer is 32bit, which is the driver I attemped to install.

Should I disable the VGA, restart and then attempt to reinstall from the ATI driver?

You need mobile drivers, standard ones won't work. You need to modify the INF of the standard drivers so they'll see your 3470.

Other than that you'll have to download from the manufacturers (of your laptop) website, though their drivers are probably woefully out of date. Keep in mind though as well that newer drivers wouldn't be as well optimized for a lower end card like the 3470 - google around to find the best set for your card.
