Getting a hair cut

I'm a novice with regards to style :D I have curly hair just above my shoulders...the kind that sticks up everywhere, but I like it...any advice about how to get it cut?? Would be a great help :)

I usually get long layers, so that I can tie it back for work. The first week or two after a cut I can barely get it into a scrunchie, but that is the length I like
