The Houston Rockets thought they had become championship contenders last summer when they acquired Ron Artest to join Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, a pair of perennial All Stars.

Less than a year later, the Rockets are rebuilding from scratch with no Artest and no idea when McGrady or Yao will play again.

The final blow came Friday, when Yao announced he would have surgery next week on his broken left foot, a decision that will likely keep him out all of next season. The team said there is no timetable set for the return of the 7-foot-6 Yao, a seven-time All Star, but that he is "expected to be available for the team's training camp in 2010."

Poor guy, I like him as a player, and he seems like a funny, down to earth sort in interviews and so on.
McGrady has always been a crock though, real shame cos he had such potential coming out of high school.

If they two of them were fit for the coming season along with Ariza...they'd be a fairly decent ballclub!

Hmm imagine what Ariza is feeling with this news especially since that he's signed with the Rockets for nearly the same price he would have had with the Lakers.

They need to offload Yao and McGrady. Seriously, they're crocked the pair of them. It's time to build something new.

I'd say he had a very good idea that the coming season would be a bit of a write off!
