Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I rang Audi the other day to get a price for oil for my A4 1.9 tdi.

The manual and what i have used before is 5w40 fully synt. but audi are telling me its 0w40 now.

    Is this true?

    Thanks

Check the spec listed in the manual - it will look something like VW505.00. Once the oil you buy matches this specification you will be OK.

Note that VW505.00 is a semi-synthetic spec so it definitely won't be that but the spec will be in the same format. Also 0W/40 is a broader spec than 5W/40 so the Audi dealer may be correct. In fact both may do the job - just be sure that the VW specification is correct.

The vw spec is the important one. One oil manufacturer may have a 5w/30 that meets a particular vw spec while the correct oil may be 0w/30 from another oil company. So find out what the required vw spec is.... vw 505/01 or whatever it happens to be, then find an oil with that code on it.
