Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any advice on what to go for? I have a Canon EOS 400

    Budget?

A good option is the sigma 10-20, and relatively cheap starting at €380 delivered on eBay, (approx €500+ in Irish shops). Canon do an alternative but it's quite pricey, although that's more than likely reflected in the image quality.

+1 for the Canon EF-S 10-22mm, fantastic wide angle lens

I got a sigma 10-20 for 399 in a bricks & mortar store in Ireland, was a few months back though...
Brilliant lens, well worth the money :)
Can't speak for the canon one.

Another +1 for the Sigma. Great lens full stop, and for the price, it's a steal.

Yup I don't have a bad word to say about the Sigma 10-20.I don't think it ever leaves my camera these days :P Oh, and Sigma make the exact same lens for Nikon so make sure to get a Canon mount.

Yeah I know someone who got it for €450, I haven't been quoted less than €500 though.

If I can get it for 380 on eBay, then I don't mind paying up to €450 in Ireland, but over €500? Not a chance.

I have that sigma lens used it an awful lot on holidays (you always need the extra width) got it second hand for STG£150 in ffordes.com so check there first.

The Canon 17-40F4L is what I use 95% of the time, very versatile and good lens for landscapes.

Got a Sigma 10-20mm cheaply from a camera shop on Dawson Street for 380 euros. Quite a bargain since it was a promo for Photo Fest earlier this year. I think it's selling now for about 500 euros.

You really need to be using this on a full frame camera to compare it to the Sigma 10-20mm.

It's not wide enough on a cropped camera.

Was thinking of getting this myself, but as has been said, it's better on a full frame body. Although 17mm on a crop body is still quite wide.

Plus the sigma isn't compatible with a full frame camera, and seeing as I plan on upgrading to full frame at some stage, it seems like a bit of a waste if I'll eventually have to get rid of it anyway.

Have a look at the Tokina 12-24. I got one about a year ago on the 'bay, and it has stood up pretty well. Plus, it's F4 through the full zoom range so a bit wider than the Sigma. It has a good 'heft' too, so feels solid.
Like the other ultra wides though, it's for cropped frame only.
