Now you have seen the best in ireland will you cease to watch football in ireland? Im just curious?

I watch a lot of Irish football. I've been to as many Rovers matches as I could this year. I'm not going to the Madrid match.

Why should I give a crap about Bohs. I'm a Shels fan with family ties to Rovers. I can't go to games because I work until 10 most nights. If Bohs make the group stages I'll eat my hat but if they do I will wish them well because it will increase the coefficient or whatever it is for more Irish teams to play in Europe.

And as for your bandwagon jibe. What do you know about me? Nice generalisation  what is my attitude? Go on tell me.

EDIT:should probably add that I'm also a United fan and do go to games every year, as far as my budget will allow. I don't think I mentioned it in this thread so I'm not sure where you came to those assumptions about me...

also I would question your attitude. If you are going to scare fans away from the LOI by branding them bandwagon jumpers everytime they go to a game then I'm not sure what you plan on achieving.

Well I respect that you are a united fan who goes to games. I am not a mad man who slaughters english football at every opportunity to gain one up for our own league.
I am a season ticket holder at anfield and love the club and also love my own irish club.
I guess I have been biased having listened to countless football fanatics who watch EPL games in the pub, have never been to a game in our own league and slag it at any opportunity.
I would never brand a LOI matchgoer as a band wagon jumper. But this game tonight isnt a LOI game. And id be willing to bet that the vast majority of casual fans tonight wont return to watch Rovers in LOI games.

this is the comment in which he said that basically 'most' Irish football fans should have an interest in Bohs for the record, you may have missed it.

I didnt say anything about CARING about Bohs. Im not a bohs fan either but ill know the score. Im a football fan. I would be keen to see how the champions of our league fair in the champions league qualifiers. I never said I hoped they'd win :D

The point is the average football fan in ireland will see real madrid being here as the most important thing that has happened in irish domestic football in years.

When quite frankly it means damn all.

A regular LOI goer cant or shouldnt be classed as a bandwagon jumper. Its understandable that not everyone can get to every single game i'm just suggesting that people make a greater effort.

OK. So let me get this straight. Youve been saying from the start that people are going because of the attraction of celebrity

Yes I have, Madrid are celebrities of the football world, the majority of people are going to see Madrid play.

    but theres no bandwagon

If thats what you want to call it then yes. You seem to be under the impresion that these people are selectively supporting Irish football because Madrid are involved then they just fcuk off. They're not, they are simply going to watch Madrid play. Nobody is claiming to be a fan of Irish football for the week, which you seem to think is the case.

    What team do you support?

I think a better question is, how come Rovers were mustarding up a few 600 attendences in Tolka one season and the next season ithey're in Tallaght getting 2,000 season ticket holders with the guts of 3,500 attending matches in Tallaght.

I'm a member of Bohemians. I attend all or most of their home games

I'm also an aston villa season ticket holder.

Because people don't have to travel all the way across the city in Friday rush hour traffic to get to Tallaght Stadium. I think you're 600 figure is pretty much way off the mark too though - double it and it'd be closer to the average attendence back then.

fair enough, but really the only thing it has to do with Irish football is that Rovers are playing. It is just basically a training match but the fact is, that as much as I hate them, you don't get to see Benzema, Ronaldo, Kaka etc. just everyday, and the fact that other countries have latched onto it, look at Sky Sports ffs, do you think they'd be showing it if it wasn't some sort of a big deal. Every team in the world would want this fixture imo. If it brings more fans to the Irish game then good, if it doesn't then it's not a big deal imo.

Whatever happens I think this will be a big boost for Rovers. no doubt they will get a few new supporters out of this.

Yes. They can and should fcuk off. It's almost like going to see the Harlem Globetrotters and pretending to be a basketball fan

Do you expect Bohs to have a larger than normal (home fans) attendance for the home leg of the Salzburg match?

If so, would you label these extra fans as bandwagoners?

I'm sure you could find alot of Northside Rovers supporters who travel to Tallaght in rush hour traffic? Sure I travel from just off Cork St to Tolka every Friday nearly and it's not too bad.

Never said 600 was the average attendence, but there was defo a few 600 attendences last season in Tolka for yous.

Ah god I think to be a true football fan ya have to be interested in football in your own country. No matter how entertaining it is.
You are right in saying nobody is claiming to be a fan of Irish football. Thats very true.
But in this country to be a true footy fan ya have to be interested in your own league. Otherwise ya just join the masses that yearn to be entertained.

I know so many lads who have no interest in watching the National team during the bad times. They have switched to the rugby. The want to feel the highs. But you can guarantee they will be savouring the world cup in South Africa if we get there.

Its a pretty sad state of affairs. Its just the principle of it thats wrong. The idea ya can choose when to love it and get into it. Its not a true love of the game. The dark days make the highs even better and all that.

And thats not the ramblings of a mad man who champions the LOI over the EPL. I love EPL football with a passion too. They go hand in hand for me.

You'd think but I doubt it. Event junkies as someone already said, they'll be out in force next season when the foreigners come over for pre-season matches as usual.

They will have a bigger than average attendance. Theres a simple explanation. Its the same reason Shamrock Rovers are getting a bigger than average for Real Madrid.

Of course theres an element of Bandwagon jumoing. Why else is there going to be an increased attendance

    What is your point here?

That attendances shouldn't increase for domestic games? :D

    Unbelievable. You'd moan about anything.

bandwagon - have to start somewhere, its if they'll stay for the long hall is another thing

think this argument has ran its course really

Someone is comparing Madrid coming over to a League match attendence. I'm merely comparing like and like in two different stadiums in two consecutive seasons, just showing the variation.

    Hardly moaning tbh!

I wouldnt for a second begrudge Shamrock Rovers their friendly game against Real Madrid. It's a fantastic coup for the club and it's core supporters.

    However, I have a question.

Where were these 11,000 supporters when the club were relegated to the first division. I'm not a shamrock rovers supporter but know that the clubs die-hard support base are as dedicated as any in the country and played a big part in keeping the club afloat.

Simple. They are there to watch Real Madrid

Exactly man. Mon the Bohs! Who give a flyin fluck about Real coming to Dublin...least it will generate some income for our lovely southside neighbours :)

I'm a rovers season ticket holder and I'll be there tonight as I wouldn't turn down the chance to see rovers against the biggest club in the world in our "home" ground but make no mistake about it, I would much much much rather be in Bohs boots on Wednesday night when the play host to a real european game, as would any proper rovers supporter.

Eh, I didn't say that at all. I've no idea how you managed to quote me saying it.

I was of the opinion the OP is talking rubbish and is completely missing the point people are making.

My apologies. It seems the quote was messed about when I tried to use it.

Will edit the post accordingly now

I think it should be pointed out that Rovers fans are there to watch a match involving Real Madrid; not to watch Real Madrid.

    There is a difference.

    Absolutely. Thats fair to say.

Other people appear to think the opposition doesnt matter and that its all about real madrid which is unfair in the extreme

I'd say at least half of the crowd are hoops (or at least not there solely to support Madrid) in some shape or form. Well over a third of the tickets were bought by season ticket holders and I know plenty of people that bought general access tickets.

It's just unfortunate they are not all seated in the one stand. Atmo will probably be a bit Ole Ole.

It's not really going to look like it with the scattered seats.

It should be a laugh as long we're not lumped in beside some Ole-boy or Ronaldo fanboy.
