Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

are they charging rovers season ticket holders 60e?

    if they're it's a f*cking crime.

Shamrock Rovers themselves are not responsible for the ticket pricing for this match.

prediction for the match : SRFC 1 - 4 Real Madrid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,773 ✭✭✭madma

I dont see why people are still going on about the price.. yes its expensive but rovers were not selling them they had to be purchased online at platinum one website so the money will be going to madrid!

also when asked about the high price for a friendly they said their big names will be on show... so if ronaldo, kaka, benzema play and th reast of the 1st team it will be worth the money seeing ronny make his debut in tallaght! what odds would you have got on that a half year ago!

    Prediction

    Rovers 0 - 6 Real

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,521 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

Being their first sort of half-proper match i suspect Real will be quite slow out of the blocks. I'd say the goals will come in the second half. I think Rovers can hold to 0-1 come half time.

Kaka is not in Ireland, he's been given time to rest after the confederations cup, same with their other signing, Albiol. The rest of the big names will be in the squad alright and their manager has said that Ronaldo and Benzema will make their debuts tonight. Id expect a strong team, but probably not their strongest. This is part of their pre-season after all so different players will be in different states of fitness and the management will have to tailor their game time to suit each player.

    I'm thinking of having a sneaky fiver on Rovers halftime-fulltime @ 66-1.

Twigg to score a hat-trick and secure a shock transfer to Barcelona.

With the transfer fee, Rovers will

    a) buy Tallaght Stadium from the SDCC and ban all the pen-pushers from the ground.

b)buy Gamble, Deegan, Byrne and O'Shea.

c)Pay off our ex-creditors with Wells Fargo-type bags of money in a televised ceremony in the centre circle at Tolka Park and give Shels supporters free tickets to attend.

d)Offer a competitive bridging loan to Bohs (80% APR) and Cork (60% APR).

and buy the Maldron Hotel and turn it into a multi-level clubhouse/museum with the rest.

What odds are you giving on this? Might just have a little flutter.

I think my mate got 12-1 for Twigg to score first if you have a tenner you don't ever want to see again. :D

Scoring first has the drawback of provoking them though.

Could we not just buy Twigg back with the spare change? :(

Twigg might need to branch out a bit...........

The above was clearly the worst pun ever in the world. I apologise.

None at all, Shamrock Rovers are being paid to turn up in Tallaght stadium with a team to play thats the limit of their involvement

Platinum One are organizing the gig.

I assume it was hard enough to even get the purcahse window for the seaosn ticket holders, which P1 nearly managed to fuck up anyway.

Nope, Platinum 1 are organising it.

    Rovers are getting a fee.

But ticket prices were set by Platinum 1.

I assume most of the money is going to Madrid.

What's in it for P1? A bit of profit, but more importantly, when they try to get more sides to play in Ireland, they now have Madrid on their CV.

Same goes for Carton House. They have developed this training facility, and want it to be the best in Europe. Their image will now be high profile, and other European clubs will be more likely to come here for pre-season training.

Well I look forward to seeing the Galaticos V Rovers, they have no Dudek in goal tonight so I dont see why we cant win 1-0 with abit of luck and some irish weather

If Robben plays he will have a field day, probably break his leg or rip his hamstring in first 5 mins though

they were given €30,000 and thats it! no say on prices, no gate receipts, nothing else!

They don't need a huge fee for the match though. They'll get extra sponsorship money for this one match and presumably sky will have to pay them something too.

Shamrock Rovers will make a tidy profit from this game, make no mistake.

Don't say that. I've got him as first goal scorer tonight. 7/1 get in.

Just realised that PP are refunding all losing first goalscorer and anytime scorer bets if Ronaldo scores anytime during the match.

Aye. Rovers will no doubt be the richest LOI team after this one match. :)

And any merchandise sales they make too. Nothing wrong with that.

It's just to get the message out there that it's NOT Rovers who are charging the sixty quid for a pre-season friendly.

    It's P1.

    .

I would imagine that the long-term aim is to impress Madrid (and other clubs) with Carton house and then get into the Aviva/Croker for big friendlies against Celtic/LOI Selects and the like even it is means a slim margin/break-even on this trip.

The profit (on top of the fee) from this for Rovers is less tangible than a big fee - it's publicity, merchandising and season-ticket sales.

Also the Newcastle game got 3000 extra bums on the temp seats.

    OK, here's some more info

P1 are setting the price and making the money

This is because they are paying for Madrid's stay in Ireland and as part of the deal they get one friendly match.

The match is their way of making their money back and making some profit.

If the tickets were not that price ->no match!
host country usually have bigger stadiums/teams
    so cheaper tickets i suppose

Yes, which is why it gets changed regularly.

    Topredo Fungal is better, imo.

It's fairly useless alright. Dynamo Rooskey in the Roscommon league was one that made me laugh.

That's exactly the aim, there was a good article to that effect in yesterdays Times. Real have trained at an Austrian base for the previous 6 (iirc) consecutive pre seasons and so they are trying out a new venue. This could develop further.
