if you pay in cash you will get better prices and will be able to haggle better. Be careful to avoid the many cowboys overthere!Joe Katz and phillippe harold are two reputable jewellers, there are some others but you can find out about them online. You should get a much better deal than here if you pay in cash especially

Can people recommend some places to stay in antwerp? Some where that is close to the diamond quarter would be best and that has internet access or wireless

We got ours there and it was perfect! Open on Saturday and he had the diamond set the same day we chose it. Like Phillipe Harolde and Joseph Katz they are certified by the Antwerp Diamond Association- correct me if I'm wrong on the name- so don't be fooled by the cheapo shops near the train station etc..... You could find out later you've been ripped off.

Also because we bought there they gave us 1 night bed and breakfast in The Leopold Hotel!!

    Good luck!

I'm heading to Antwerp in a week or two to buy an engagement ring and don't have a credit card. Is it wise to be travelling around with several thousands in cash? I presume nobody accepts Laser.

Additionally, do HRD or IGI certificates cost more or do they come with the diamond ring?

It is safe to bring cash once you put it in a safe place.I brought a good few thousand with me and hadnt a problem. You can put it in a safe in the hotel when you get there. If you go into a certified jewellers you will get the cert with the ring.Dont buy a ring without a cert even if you get great value on a ring.
