Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi lads as it says I have a Mazda 6 1.8 petrol with 70K miles.
More then a month ago car was serviced and oil was changed and filled up as far as max.
Now, since then I drove 1500 miles and the oil has drop from max to about 20 percent less. So now it s on at the 80% level of the dipstick. So my question is, is this kind of oil consumption normal for this car or would that be too much?

By the way, there is no blue smoke from the exhaust or signs of leak from under the engine.

i had an avensis a-4e. and it said in the manual that at the height of oil consumption it can be as bad as 1 litre for every 400miles. which is roughly a tank of fuel.

1500miles to quarter tank of oil. i dont reckon that to be bad. i know some cars just use oil in its running. i am sure that someon e with a volkswagen will give you a better idea about oil consumption

Yeah I know all about Volkswagen and their famous oil consumption.
But it s just that I bought this car a little bit more then a month ago and i v done 1500 miles and it used this bit of oil so I was wondering is that normal for them or not??

As well do you know does this Mazda 1.8 petrol has a PCV valve, because I v heard that if the PCV valve is dirty and clogged from carbon deposits it can cause excessive oil consumption??
Could this be a problem maybe with my Mazda??

The person that serviced it might have but too light of oil in the engine 5W-30 garages are all doing this now, Top it up with 15W-40 Semi-synthetic and see how quick it burns it.
