Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Logon loop on Windows 2003 server

There's a couple of threads in here with a similar problem to mine but not the same and I've read a few google hits also.

The problem is as soon as I've logged on to a Server 2003 Domain Controller I'm immediately logged off again. Like this:

    http://aussiecomputerguy.blogspot.com/2009/04/computer-immediately-logs-off.html

Most sites say that the userinit.exe file in

    C:\windows\system32\

is missing or corrupt or the registry setting

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\userinit

    has been changed.

I think my userinit.exe file is ok, but there is no registry entry for it at all in the above registry location. So, I'm thinking of creating the key but not sure what key type create, Dword, Binary or String. Anyone know?

I trying to be very careful with this as it is a domain controller.

Have you tried booting to Last Known Good Config, or try logging in as a different user. There may be something wrong with that profile.

On the windows 2003 SBS SP2 the "Userinit" key (Capital U, probably doesn't matter) at that location is
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

    of type reg_sz. (String)

Comma at the end is included.

Delete profiles on the server remotely and try again, I had this before with corrupt profile

suggests that you might want to check your shell key also.

Thanks for the replies. Entering the correct reg path to userinit.exe enabled me to log on. Cleaned 4 viruses. Will check the shell key.

    The Shell key was fine.
