I think the fear of re-buying stuff is gone, now that it's fairly common knowledge that most Blu-Ray players will upscale your old stuff nicely.

but upsacaled dvd isnt the same image as true hd from blu ray, and its kinda a non issue anyway considering an average hd tv will upscale dvd better than most players can do it anyway

the fear of rebuying stuff isnt gone either, everyone ive ever spoken to on the issue has brought it up as the main reason they havent bothered with blu ray, even the people i know with ps3's are still buying dvd's over blu ray (yes i know im boring for having conversations about stuff like that :) )

you also may be surprised to know that a whole lot of people still dont have a hdtv in their house and dont really care about high definition as long as they can see what's going on

Probably. But before you go brandishing your "fanboi LAWL" stick I would go back and read my original argument which was to pick the console with the exclusives you prefer. I own all the consoles. I prefer the PS3. Done deal. I don't see why that constantly brings out the "UR OPONION DUSNT COUNT CUZ UR A FANBOI" crap. Preferring one console over the other is fine. When people argue megadrive vs. SNES it doesn't get as much crap as xbox vs. playstation.

Quite true, your initial arguement made sense, plain and simple. :)

If there's a game you can't do without, you need to own the console to play it on... For example, while I don't have a PS3, I know I'll buy one, and I reckon it'll be Heavy Rain that tips me over the edge (and a price drop, if I'm being honest). See... All about the games.

I wouldn't agree with your blu-ray comments though. "A few good offers at Christmas will probably launch it into the common household." HDTVs don't have the levels of market penetration needed for blu-ray players to take off that way yet... imo.

No, but it improves your existing DVDs. Wasn't your point that you didn't want to have to buy your dvd collection again?

but i dont have to buy a ps3 or any blu ray player to upscale my dvd's, pretty much any hd tv i buy will already do that better than the ps3

And the next technology will display your movies in HD? Do you like to contradict yourself much?

no it will display it in some form of better hd, i dont know what theyre calling it atm...how is that a contradiction? im just not as eager as you to adopt stepping stone technology

I cannot believe I've just read that. You do realise good gameplay has absolutely nothing to do with a games console? Also, the PS3 is considerably more powerful then the 360. It's up to developers to take advantage of it.

I have done taken a few games and put them head to head. Graphically the PS3 is not un to the standard of the Xbox 360 and the game play is not either.

I know the Ps3 is the more powerfull machine but i could not help but feel dissapointed by it .

Can you please explain the bolded bit? How does the console determine the gameplay?

let me put it to you this way. If there is a game i want and its out for the xbox and the ps3. I am going to buy it for the xbox. Because it plays better and looks better then the PS3 .

Again, how does it play better? You haven't really answered the question.

I mean, I have played COD4 on the 360 and PS3, as well as a few other games, and the only differences I noticed were the fact that button prompts were different and I could hear it better on the PS3 [loud fan on 360].

I would agree (well I have to, it's a technical hurdle) but I can't justify the cost of a new disk (special offer or otherwise) compared to just simply upscaling what's actually a decent image.

You're right but nearly all tv's sold in the last 2 years were HDTV's so market share is going up. And the market for blu-rays now almost all own a HDTV. Sony and other blu-ray player manufacturers need to target the SkyHD customers...

As I say, the market is too big to have HDTV be a majority yet. However, HDTV is huge among the demographic for those who'd buy blu-rays, so it can get very successful this Christmas, IMO.

Speaking as someone who has both consoles (and had a wii, got rid of it once the novelty wore off), I would get the 360. My PS3 only gets switched on to watch movies (blu-ray and streaming stuff from my PC) these days. If they ever get off their holes and release Gran Turismo 5 I imagine I will suddenly be spending a lot more time with my PS3. Until then there's Forza 3 coming out for the 360 in the autumn. I only play first person shooters on my PC, where they belong.

    2006 or 2007: 360
    2008 onwards: PS3

IMO. PS3 had a better lineup last year compared to 360. Looks like it'll easily have a better lineup this year, and 2010 looks stellar. The only two appealing exclusives I can think of for 360 this year are ODST and Forza 3. Microsoft is taking a bloody nap this year and so many of its christmas games are being delayed to 2010. Meanwhile PS3 has already had Killzone 2 and Infamous, and has a lot more exclusives to come through the rest of the year.

PSN has also been growing way more to my taste since last year, PSN stuff seems roundly more original and higher end than XBLA stuff I think.

Add in a quieter, sleeker machine, Blu-ray functionality and a slicker user interface. It's more expensive, but it's worth it, and it's nice to play free online. But if you're looking to buy a system now I'd say to wait a couple of months. There's all sorts of rumours of new cheaper machines. There's a pretty strong rumour of a PS3 slim hitting Europe on September 2 for €299.

noodler can you explain why you are putting your gay porn pics up?

have you something you wanna tell us?

What star trek do you be watching where there is gay porn involved? Btw the word "Jap" is considered by most western countries as an ethnic slur.

I like both consoles but the build quality of xbox 360 is why i don't have one. RROD and the fans were a pain.

My ps3 runs fine and there is some nice exclusives. True, a lot of western third-party games are poor ports. Japanese developers aren't as bad. I love the region free on all games as well. It allowed me to import Demons Souls from Asia. I know some 360 games are region free but all ps3 are.

There is games i look forward to coming out on it like White Knight Chronicles.

That's good to hear! I hope I can afford it when it comes out, we can co-op the online mode. :D Really need to get Demon's Souls!

Picked up my 360 cause it was cheap. Glad I did, Sony has done nothing to make me want a PS3, none of the exclusives really appeal to me.

Everyone's diffferent though. Funny how the sway in votes once it was taken from the PS3 forums though.

    Is it? :p

These polls more or less just end up being a vote on what system you own, and there are more 360 owners out there than PS3 owners.

Everyone wants to encourage everyone else to make the same choice they did, to validate themselves.

The best advice in that context is really to do your own research on what'd be best for you and make your decision based on that. No one else has the same taste or circumstances you have.

Hey thanks for all the advice guys. I know the it is down to personal choice. But if you don't ask you will never know.
It seems the Xbox is winning in favour of the PS3.
Blu-Ray doesn't come into it for me, as I have a pretty good AV system so I am also in the market for a top spec BD player.
Now that Xbox has HD output is a bonus.
I've heard to rumours that Sony are going to drop the price of PS3, again just a rumour.
I am pushed more towards the Xbox. But I will let ye know how I got on.

Its all pretty much the same. I cant see how xbox live is better than PSN they are the same to me, playing COD online on xbox is the same as on PS3 which is all you want it to do anyway. All the other stuff is pointless, xbox has a pretty useless film feature( all fairly old and you have to rent them) and ps3 has a pretty useless music video feature( limited good videos and poor search feature). PShome is a huge boring ad.

xbox does some games a little better than ps3 ( bioshock, ghostbusters, orange box, fallout 3) this is because its easier to covert PC games to xbox than PS3. but again such tiny differences if anyone gets hung up on them they are silly goose.

PS3 has blue ray and internet which is good for me as i can then watch bluerays/TV on my big screen while i browse onthe laptop as i dont have a tv signal in the games room.

Exclusives are good and bad on both

    xbox

    gears 1&2 very good
Mass effect brilliant ( 2 will be awesome )
halo 3 terrible ( yea thats right im sick of this halo hype its an awfull game )

    Ps3

    Killzone very good
Unchartered brilliant but short ( unchartered 2 will be one of the best games ever made )
little big planet again over hyped nonsense a little fun for about 2 days.
    Resistence 2 silly arcadey shooter.

ID go xbox if all you want is gaming if you think you want gaming + blueray and a console that has internet get the PS3.

I would go full spec anyway which ever you choose as digital downloads are taking off so a big hard drive will be needed.

If you want to waste 200 euro on a lump of crap that you will use for 2 days then never again get a wii.

I may be the only one here who feels it but I prefer the PS3 controller.

360 has a clear advantage when it comes to FPS games but when it comes to a beat-em-up or a Pro Evo game then the D-pad on the PS3 is a far better fir for me (The extra shoulder buttons are also quite important for PES).

It still sucks for beat'em ups though since comparing the PS3 d-pad to the 360 one is like saying do you want a pile of **** or do you want to be covered in it. If you are going to play them without any frustration you'll need another pad or stick.

I'm a 360 player myself for reasons already outlined in many posts above.

I just think that the poor Wii is getting an awful slating, fair enough Nintendo screwed up with the prevention of third party developers and their game selection over the past year is brutal.
I still think it's the more social of the gaming systems, the party and sport games make for great multiplayer fun, and for neurotic lone gameplay there's RE4, Zelda, Call of Duty WAW which ported well onto the Wii, just didn't have the shading detail of the other consoles.

The homebrew channel is class, some great media players and emulators on it. Wolfenstein 3d was even recently added, great fun with the wii controller.
It also allows video/audio streaming on the network with no codec issues and can read off any usb device you plug in, including my ipod which the xbox has yet to do.

Anyways, the original point, 360 all the way, it's only a matter of time before blu-rays can be streamed to it, in my opinion the only thing PS3 has 1up with.
