edit before you ask I know there's missing me episodes

"This year you won’t need a scorecard to track the tournaments – only four will be shown. There’s the 40k anniversary tournament, the WSOP Champions Cup Invitational (the small freeroll populated by former Main Event winners), the Ante up For Africa Charity Event and, getting the lion’s share of the episodes, the Main Event of the 2009 WSOP.

    The schedule (all times EST):

    July 28 — 8-10 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP $40,000 Special Anniversary Tournament

    August 4 — 8-10 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP Champions Cup Invitational

    August 11 — 8-10 p.m., ESPN
    Ante Up For Africa Charity

    August 18 to Sept. 22 8-10 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP main event episodes 7-18

    September 29 8-11 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP main event episodes 19-21

    October 6 10-11 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP main event episode 22

    October 13 to Nov. 3 — 9-11 p.m., ESPN
    WSOP main event shows 23-30

Anybody know why they are showing such a limited amount of the WSOP this year? Seems pretty damn stupid to me

showing less events but more of the events they are showing, in particular the main event, with the N9 and all that jazz they trying to hype it up as much as possible by showing more build up

Combination of recession and knowing last years viewing figures.

Nobody (relatively) watches the non holdem and smaller events.

The best event to watch the last two years was the HORSE imo.

Fair enoughbut there was a huge amount of larger buy-in Holdem events this year that they are not touching. Strange :(

I always enjoy each year, with anticipation, the airing of the shows in the USA and hence their availability on Pokertube.

AFAIK, ESPN considered cutting poker coverage entirely last December.

Wow, I always thought poker was a good moneyspiner (or moneymaker :P) for them....

HORSE and limit-poker in general make for boring TV. The only reason it was good the first years was because the final table was NL hold'em. The best thing about last year was Scotty Nguyen's appalling behaviour. The only surprise to me is that ESPN kept broadcasting it as long as they did.

Paul Phillips summed it up well:
"And for those of you who think the general public is weary of NLH and would like to see some other games, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Even now, people don't care about the poker itself. They watch for the DRAMA. There is no drama that can be understood by normal people in the play of a limit hand. "Will he try for a thin value bet here or just check it down? I'm on the edge of my freaking seat!""
