I am going to reply to this thread even though it's wording is kind of offensive and it may get pulled for that. Hope my typing is not a waste of time.

Well Bertie. Fair dues to him to stick around in Ireland and answer some of these tough questions. In all honesty if I made the money that he did while serving in office I would be relaxing near a pool, champagne glass in hand and a couple of high class working girls for company.

    :pac:

Bertie is right ofcourse. When people take pain the man in office gets flak. Let's not forget that he was re-elected and no-body had a problem with him when they saw their wealth increase and the birth of the best thing in Irish History - the Celtic Tiger!

The only pity is that quite alot of that wealth has evaporated. However let's not forget that an awful lot of wealth remains. Anyone getting out of the propery bubble at the right time is now very well off.

    They have Bertie to thank

thats a bit of a let them eat cake argument isnt it? I doubt the average punter thought they were playing a game of poker

Just listening to it now , he seems a bit deluded , its an international problem ...sure it is. No mention that we had the most leveraged banking system behind Iceland , that they fuelled the property boom with property reliefs while knowingly joning the a low interest rate Euro. Or that in 05 he said house prices were good value so claerily there was no forethought that bubbles always burst

Of course he's going to say that.

Do you honestly think he would put his hand up and say, "Look lads, there were mistakes made, I'm genuinely sorry for causing them"?

Of course not. Haughey didn't call him "the most cunning one of all" for nothing. After being told to do one over the top EU job, Bertie now has aspirations for the presidency, and he'll do everything he can to get it.

no I guess not but I hope he is deluded in thinking he will get elected, if he does then it will be evidence that the majority of Irish people do deserve everything that is coming down the tracks.

Why was that radio interview videoed I wonder? Oh I know why, purely to boost Ms Colemans profile. Surprised Ahern agreed to it.

    Couldn't they mic him seperately?

    Spot the Fianna Failer !

I never voted for him and always had a problem with him.

Don't assume everybody holds the same ethics and values as yourself. That's a common mistake fianna failers make.

Am I correct to assume that Bertie is receiving a Taoiseach's pension while still earning a TD's salary ?

Pathetic. I haven't seen a leader that delusional since Carol Coleman's interview of George Bush a few years ago.

All very predictable so frustrating to hear him being a the jackass that he is.

Strange how his everyman attitude has disappeared and replaced with I can't do anything wrong, everything I did was right and its all the US's fault that we are here.

    What a load of ****e.

Every point the journalist makes Bertie just says I don't agree with that and moves on spouting nonsense about how the sun shines through his nether regions and everything he touched turned to gold...

No no! Fine Gael have nearly the exact same policies as Fianna Fail. to be honest there is no party in Ireland that is different from the other and who would be any good as the leading party. I wouldn't trust Enda Kenny with a barge pole just like the rest of them!!

FG are almost exactly the same as FF and that isn't that big a problem TBH.

FF's biggest problem is its close ties to builders and property developers which is one thing they don't seem to have in common with FG.

Sometimes change for changes sack is a good thing. I don't think most people in Ireland are up for radical change.

Coleman asks about the Central Bank and regulation, and then Bertie the Bollox says "you've moved on to Lehmans...." ????

    Talk about twisting a question.....

The title of this thread is an understatement!

Fianna Fail are all about feathering their own nest, always have, always will. Quick money, worry about tomorrow when it comes. Let's not forget the last recession....put everything into the building industry, arse falls out, everybody screwed....and here we are again.
Instead of ever getting around to Health and Education, they dicked about a bit when there was money, now there's none, they're finally paying attention, but to cut back. What a bunch of complete dicks.
Anyone who voted for them must have been doing pretty well and when the next crowd get in to try fix this mess, Fianna Fail will be waiting in the wings to jump in for the next **** show.

Tell you what don't bother replying in future if all you are going to do is make excuses for what appears to be your hero
Did you do well out of the property bubble ?

You are of course right on one point.
A lot of people did vote him back in because they of course were doing alright.
These of course were people that hadn't experienced the Irish helth service, hadn't seen their manufacturing jobs disappear and probably couldn't give two sh**s about the warnings that we were screwed long term.
And I bet a lot of these voters are now unemployed, have negative equity and are pretty peed off looking for someone to blame.

If there's anything that can be learned from the greens introduction of the new car tax regime it this: Good ideas in the hands of idiots are bad policies.

So how about we let someone who might have a clue have a go at running the place. The shower in power certainly don't. (should be FG's new slogan:D)
