Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi folks

Heading to SA in November for 3 months. Flying into Rio and making our way down to BA and on to Patagonia. From there up to Peru,Bolivia and flying out of Santiago.

Looking for some rough costs for SA in general. Whats the cost of living like and if people have been there before how much would you budget for each day??

When I was there I budgeted 1000 Euro a month.
It's was a more for Arg and Chile, Brazil too if you're not careful.
Then Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia were cheaper so it all evened out in the end.
Lots has been written about it if you search.

    Brazil - €50 a day
    Argentina, Chile & Uruguay - €40 a day
    Peru - €25 a day
    Bolivia - €25 a day

I just did that same journey 2 months ago and that is roughly what I spent.
    Hope it helps

Im landing in Buenos Aires on Oct 1st to make my way up through the west coastal countries, and i too have budgeted at €1000 per month. I dont wannna see Ireland at least till summer time next year. But i have a number of friends that traveled SA in the last few years and to answer your question, yes. You can have a very decent standard of living on this budget. You'll prob have more than the average long term traveller. Bug remember one of the worst things you could do is under estimate your cost needs. Its no fun been broke on holiday. Think practical, take buses, use hostels as opposed to hotels and eat where the locals eat. This all will be more fun in the end.
Ps. i Did South East Asia a few years back over 4 months with a budget of €1000 per month, drank most nights, rented scooters for weeks on end and i never once have a money issue.

My one remaining question is; what is a suitable exit ticket out of the country to keep British Airways happy that i am not trying to live in Argentina. ie. will a bus ticket to Santiago work or will a ferry ticket to Montevideo do or will i need etc? if anyone can help?

ps. jazsus I cant freakin wait.. :D

Would costs be the same then as costs travelling South East Asia?
I was thinking it would be slightly more.
