Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After as much sharpening as possible,I've figured out this lens isn't sharp enough when focusing on close objects!
    link

I don't know the specific lens that you are using but with a certain lens i went through a phase of "theres something wrong with my camera / lens / whatever" but when I got around to analysing the end product and read up on the specifics of the lens I found that it's sharpest was f5.6 and I was trying to get it tack sharp at f1.7.

So I made a different approach and shot a scene at the reputed sharpest setting of f5.6. Good move. I won't say it was perfect but it was close. I do think before anyone writes off a lens, that they should find its sweet spot which won't be at the extremities of focal length range or aperture but probably somewhere in the middle of each. Also, don't write off a lens before you've sat it on a tripod or steady surface / use mirror up / and timer or remote shutter release.

Then again, you could be completely right as I don't know what lens you are using :)

    Nope I'm 10' 3"!:pac:

I do often bring a step ladder around with me, when I'm in Mat Talbot mode of suffering for my hobby, but this time used the telecom junction box to stand on and a parking info sign to lean against.

Taken in broad daylight with a 30 sec exposure using a filter from a welders mask - hand held in front of the lens. Bought a set of them on ebay for €5.

Yeah, I couldn't find the original thread where these filters were discussed so I stuck the pic here instead. Got three filters numbered 9, 10 & 11 with the 11 being virtually black. That pic was with the 9. I wonder did anyone else try them?

I tried it too with a welders mask I had here but I couldnt get the white balance set so that it wasnt green so kinda gave up :D

Must order me some of those filters! If you can't correct the WB to take down the green, you could always go B&W! Tried a B&W conversion on that shot and it turns out quite nicely!

As Killarney seems to be a theme today... The sight of a barren tree among the greenery kinda caught my eye.

I decided to go outside my comfort zone for 5 minutes and try some street shots.I have to say I wasn't too sure about it,I just felt a bit out of place.I think I'll stick to landscapes.I admire anyone who can do it well though,it's a completely different form of photography and requires a completely different skill set :(
