most of my images are 900by600, does that disqualify me from posting them? most people now have at least a 1200 by 900 screen resolution even on laptops and an extra 100px in length wont slow down browsers too much.

am I asking for too much for the rule to be expanded to 900?
the majority of dslr's output 2:3 images, that would mean 800by533.333334px max landscape size.

I use a netbook most of the time,I've only got 1024x600,And I'm sure there's a few more using them too...

Upload them to flickr and open the 500px image and post here or do the same on pix.ie.

If you use pix.ie, Macrus and the folks give a convenient 800px max side rendition of every image uploaded into it with reasonable scaling rendition used. I'm suspicious that it was particularly provided for boards.ie but eitherways it is very convenient. Personally I scale my image to 800 max size before uploading and don't upload the high res which means that I never ever ever run out of pix.ie bandwidth

There are a variety of screen sizes and previously 800px was the agreed standard - we may revisit but where do we stop. While many may be comfortable with 900 (I personally love the boston.com 990px size), netbooks which are becoming really popular are more limited (i'm also a netbook fan).

Pop it up on the ideas thread and see what comes back. I may see if we can get our hands on the boards web stats to see what the browser screen dimensions are too.
