Japan Executions

Saw this on the BBC website.
Maeue, executed in Osaka, killed three people in 2005 after he met them through an internet website for people planning to commit suicide.
If the three people who this lad killed had failed in their attempts to kill themselves, would they have been charged with attempted murder?

They do, but only for things like treason and certain cases of murder.

Then again, japans legal system is fucked up.

I think they finally got trial by jury recently. I was shocked when i found out it was trial by judge.

Kinda explains why there was no jury in those Phoenix Wright games though :P

They'll be the first to make a tv gameshow out of it.

I don't think the death penalty was the correct course of action, but the guy certainly deserved to be punished for this. Japan already has one of the highest suicide rates in the world without this kind of nonsense going on.

I reckon kill 'em all and let the great Pókemon in the skyGod sort 'em out.

^^ I wouldn't support assisted suicide here or in Japan. The location is irrelevant. There are too many dangers involved in it including underlying psychological problems that could be solved otherwise, a feeling that people have to die because they are a burden unto other people. There are too many ways it could be abused.

Don't forget the giant death squids and asians. The place is like a big concentration camp, covered in serrated edges.

pretty much, i always thought capcom had that system as a gameplay mechanic, but it turns out it is almost that messed up....well, excluding letting parrots and ghosts testify.

Accepting the evidence of parrots and ghosts to what rank? Non jury trials and hearsay as evidence...are we giving Dermot Ahern ideas here?

Criminal Law (Parrot Surveillance) Ammendment Act 2010, here we come. Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime. After Hours is mollified.

No we don't. We're well down the suicide rate league.

Well, much of that could be down to cultural reasons, the Samurai Bushido code of honour and all that. Have you not seen Letters from Iwo Jima? Those guys couldn't wait to kill themselves.

But they also have beer vending machines. And vending machines dispensing other essential items, like umbrellas, porn, ramen, eggs. All the ingredients of a good Friday night.

You're all ignoring the chronic levels of tentacle rape in Japan. If I couldn't set foot outside my door without the risk of being violated by tentacles I too would contemplate suicide.

    that was not even funny?

I thought it was quite funny?

Perhaps you have to have seen the amount of people reading hentai of this nature in Japan.

Would have thought not, given that tentacle rape is joked about in reference to Japan quite a lot.

A chinese lad i went to college with once showed me a hentai film he had on his laptop. It was one of the funniest things i ever saw. I fell on the floor laughing.

lol, i'm not sure if that would have been the filmakers (if you can call them that) intended reaction, but fair enough. :pac:

they really do have a lot of sea creature related obsessions though, they're really quite an odd bunch.

now if only i could design a jizz stained schoolgirls uniform to fit a mecha cyberpunk sumo tentacle I could capture the whole japanese fetish market in one fell swoop, open up a web store at ebay.co.jp and make millions. :)
