It's proabaly the same reason only white people play say I don't know cricket.

It's not really a sport and they couldn't be arsed?

Theres lots of African American swimmers

Though African people don't grow up with the same amenities etc so it'd be hard for them to get involved in competitive swimming at a young age

The same reason the NBA has way more black players than white and the NHL has way more white players than black.

Chlorine in the water bleaches their skin, so they appear white. It's only when they take off their swimming gear that one can discern the true race of a swimmer.

Expect to see some more soon with the new body suits.

Non white people have "rougher" skin which causes friction in the water and slows the swimmer just enough to prevent record performance.

Caucasian skin types are "smoother" and create less friction.

    That's the reason.

    White men can't jump,

    Black men can't swim.

Actually, I'm just covering here. It is in fact a global conspiracy involving Neo-Nazis, Neo-Cons and Walt Disney's frozen brain to preserve the bastion of the most noble of sports (swimming) as a shining pillar of white supremacy.

    Or no. Just no.

since when is white not a colour?
white is known as the absence of colour
black is known as the essence of colour

whats the p.c. term to use so?

    Non-caucasian?

Black, Latin & Asian pretty much cover most of the options other than white too.

"My dad, for example, he's not as cosmopolitan or as educated as me and it can be embarrasing you know. He doesn't understand all the new trendy words - like he'll say 'poofs' instead of 'gays', 'birds' instead of 'women', 'darkies' instead of 'coloureds'."

Nonsense. Don't they have rivers and lakes? Wouldn't the local crocodiles and hippos provide more incentive to swim fast than a shiny bit of metal on a ribbon?

Why do racism threads come in batches?

One of the US relay team at the last olympics was black:

This thread is stupid and racist.

    No it's not.

Op asked a very relevant question, I gave the answer.

Only racist aspect is in your mind.

FWIW I was being facetious with the river comment.
If I'm honest I never noticed a lack of blacks in swimming competetions until this thread brought it up. Your explanation above is interesting. I recall being severely slated on here for claiming that Kenyans had a genetic advantage in long distance running, even though no-one could prove that they hadn't (and the results speak for themselves)...

The thread isn't stupid and racist. Your thoughts are quite perverse if you think that. The only problem with it may be that it shouldn't be in After Hours. The OP has a point although he may not have worded it concisely. There are sociological issues at hand here. Someone said that black people in general would have less access to swimming amenities. Maybe but perhaps it's just one of those sports that black people don't go for as a whole. Sports like basketball, baseball and American football thrive while swimming is a selective sport that most black kids wouldn't be arsed with.

    Really?

If OP wanted a serious answer why didnt he post in the Sports forum and instead of AH were the thread is going to get a lot of racist answers?

Your response is difference in skin texture, can you please give a link to back that up?

    Ulster Unionists
    Sri Lankans.

Cricket is very popular with these people, none of which are white
